50 Shades of Grey

50 Shades of Grey is the new bestselling book around the world by E L James. It is meant to be, because I have not read it, a fairly simple book with quite a lot of eroticism in it, but what I do know is that the author is becoming exceedingly wealthy from the book.

In the United Kingdom alone it has been topping charts week after week, with unprecedented sales, in excess of 500,000 a week and even though it has slowed down recently, it is still selling more than 200,000 copies each and every week. This means it is now far more successful than Harry Potter and even past all the Da Vinci Code books as well. The critics certainly make it clear that it is not an incredible work of fiction saying that it is really ordinary writing but perhaps that is what you need if you want to sell a lot of copies to the wider public. In any event, this blog is, like many of mine, more about educating me, and I look forward to reading all the comments and replies, preferably from people who have read the book as to what they thought and why it is so successful. Literary success is still however very well rewarded – she is estimated to be worth $15 million and even Time Magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world!

I am sure everyone knows about this book of “Fifty Shades of Grey” by now, for those who would want to read it enjoy, but it's not the type of story I would want to read.

I am not a reader at all, but after this whole hype about "fifty shades of grey" curiosity got the better of me and i decided to start reading this book that is on the mouths of nearly every woman i know.

I started reading it, but then realised why i don't read and why i am more of a "visual" personality! I put the book down and there it will collect dust. It did not grab my attention in the beginning and therefore i could not continue reading it.

Call me crazy, but that is why we are all different :)

I am not really one for a "first person narrative" stories but I must say that I have really enjoyed these books. Again it depends on what types of stories you like to read and if you are one of those who hates romance/love stories then this is not really going to be one of your things. I really enjoyed all 3 books and would recommend those who love romance/love stories to read it......

I started reading the book and am almost done. I dont think I will be reading the others though. as I find the book to be predictable at times and not that good. being a book worm I tend to look for a good books to read with good stories lines. The book reminds me of a Twilight scenario with the eroticism in it.

The book is written in simple plain English, nothing that you need to give much thought to. It is also very repetitive and yet it has a captivating quality about it, perhaps because of its simplicity.

While reading it, there were many debates and discussions surrounding it such as:

“Fifty Shades of Grey: Women have fought for centuries NOT to be viewed merely as sexual objects! Not to be used / not to be objectified! Now what do you think this book is really about? Is it selling for the perverseness of this relationship?? Can women really further popularize such a step down the path of enslavement? Naïve readers and viewers of degradation. Liberation is still a long way away. What are we doing with our minds? Are women really so bored , believe themselves as unworthy that we can long for /admire/ consider this type of relationship as worthy? Yes that are indeed relationships like this. Does that mean that they are to be revered / upheld? If you read the book, it is fine for insight / education purposes but do not run to hastily to revere this. There are many people who think this is actually cool”

It is a very easy read. I enjoy the book, and once I get started I cannot put the book down. I have to force myself to stop reading. It is not such a brilliant book, but something grabs ones attention. I enjoy the fact that you can laugh throughout the book too.

I am currently reading the book for that very reason, to see what the hype is all about. It is simply written, not much thinking needs to be done and highly erotic/provocative. The author did not need to do much homework to sell her books, bottom line, sex sells - regardless of age.

Well I have not been able to read the book yet, my son keeps me too busy, I have however heard that it is awesome, very how can I say in a nice way sexual lol. I would love to read it. I heard on the radio as well that it has made a lot of people's sex lives a lot better. They are now already looking to make a movie of it and looking for cast to play the roles. Looks like Ian Somerhalder (from vampier diaries) is in the winning to play the lead man in the movie. No wonder why he is a very good looking man and woman would pay to watch him so it is a good choice lol.

Brumilde you must read it! It is not purely a romance. It is not particularly well written and be a tad repetitive at times. I read the book in a day. I could not stop readings it. The content is 'enlightening' and scandalous and explains the SMBD world rather aptly. Loved the book.
