Falling standards at Woolworths

There have been some recent issues with the Broadacres branch of Woolworths, where staff members are incredibly aggressive with customers, but I must say that the online service has really deteriorated in the last six months. There is not a time where they don’t call you, to tell you that they don’t have something in stock, even if you tick that you do not want to be called, and frequently I now get calls to tell me that the delivery will be late.

“The delivery will be late” is fine, the only problem being that normally when I get the call to say that the delivery will be late, the delivery does not come at all that day and nobody phones me to even explain why. It is only when I call the Woolworths Call Centre, the next day, to say that delivery has not taken place that they allege that they tried to deliver but nobody was there, when in fact somebody was at the house and always is.

To make things worse, they alleged an attempted delivery time which was at the same time that the branch was phoning me to tell me that they did not have things in stock, would like to arrange substitutes and that the delivery would be late. It is not possible to be phoning me to say that the delivery will be late at the same time that you have already entered into a computer that you have tried to deliver, but we were not there! Their Call Centre staff members also need to be trained, if the reference number is the be-all and the end-all, and they cannot pick somebody up by their surname, to at least then leave the reference number in messages every time they call. In other words, when they call me, it is not important enough to quote to me my order number, but when I call back, they cannot find anything by reference to my surname.
Woolworths has always been top of the supermarkets in South Africa, but I just wonder if there are not new people in charge of the online shopping division or what precisely is going on that the experience at the Broadacres branch is so unpleasant, in terms of the attitude of their staff, and the online shopping, which is presumably being serviced from the same branch, is also now so problematic.

Hello Michael why is the Woolworth's roof at the factory site in Paarl next to the N1 just outside Paarl Asbestos, is Asbestos roofs not illegal at food factories etc? Potentially there may be many employees at this site current and past potentially exposed to the lethal small asbestos particles also the potential contamination of the Woolworth's products at the site. I understand that asbestos is not visible to the human eye What should one do to warn the employees and the consumers. Maybe WW does not no that the roof is Asbestos thx

I also believed that Woolworths is the top one of the supermarkets in South Africa, but nowadays it seems like their service is going down badly

It is like that all over these days, South Africa is no longer customer driven . I also agree with Tanya L point of view.

It's crazy how Broadacres shopping centre burned down that week.

I always used to think that if something is more expensive, the quality is better - How wrong I was. It's actually quite funny how everyone used to love Woolies, and held their name so high - but lately it really hasn't been the same... I agree with Sheena, and staying a 'loyal customer' is now a thing of the past. I expect the best and nothing less! Always...

I have to agree with Sheena, I really do expect good quality food if I pay more at a different place for the same thing.

I must say I was the first coloured to work for Woolies many moons ago and they were the best in town their service and quality has dropped so much i.e I bought a salad from Woolies and also from Spar stangely Woolies was not nice at all compared to how fresh the Spar one was

I personally love Woolies food and don't mind spending the extra for it. However our service delivery as a whole in South Africa is just pathetic so I would not order my food online. rather select and get it myself because sadly we have very bad service.

Woolworths has great food, but these days it has become so unpleasant to shop there. It is ALWAYS busy and whenever you go there for something specific they will be sold out. Not worthwhile anymore.

Good old fashioned service deteriorates by the day. Woolworths bases their prices on good service and above average quality. They better step up

Customer service is something that has seemed to be lost in SA and we have this we do not care attitude. It really is a shame as this country has so much potential.

I think woolworths is over priced and if I am paying more than the normal price for a name brand I expect it to be good quality for my money.

I share the sentiments of Tanya. Service in SA is no longer customer driven and the only way to do ones part in rectifying the situation is a full frontal offence, calling them out and making a scene in front of other customers followed by a boycott (I feel that this is the primary function of the retired and elderly citizens if they want to stay out of retirement villages and old age homes)

Maybe they should revise their employment selection process together with Engen.

I agree that there is something wrong at Woolworths now you can sometimes find e.g. milk labelled best before 20 March 2014 and when you open that milk is already off in 2012 and it's confusing
