Growth of Lanseria Airport

Lanseria Airport continues to grow, and for those who have flown to there recently, would have noted that a new runway is nearing completion. It has really been progressing at some speed and on every occasion I have been there trucks rumbling up and down and part of it appears to be tarred already. An extra runway will obviously allow more planes to fly in and out and fulfil plans for this to be a busier airport. I also think somebody could make quite a lot of money by building a new parking development at the airport, because there is often a shortage of parking. Lanseria Airport was of course the favourite airport for stars and government Ministers during the 2010 Soccer World Cup, and to this day it seems to be the airport of choice for pop stars, etc performing in Johannesburg.

well, I flew from Lanseria 2 weekends ago. the construction was evident. pretty soon, with all the additional people coming and going, the area is going to become an economic hub. what would also be nice, was if they had offices/consultation rooms to hire. I have had to consult in coffee shops at airports before, which is less than ideal when dealing with client's and their personal matters.

I've never been at Lanseria Airport but I have heard a lot about it. Henco's sister always lands at Lanseria when she comes to JHB from CT. I guess is also closer to PTA than OR Tambo.

I love flying from Lanseria, to Durban the airfares are cheaper most of the times and I find that the flights are not always that fully booked...

I will also rather fly from Lanseria as OR Tambo is a bit overwhelming big

I don't think I have ever flown from Lanseria, I have always just gone to O R Tambo. I guess its busier and more 'entertaining' being at the bigger airport. It's always more appealing to go through the International airport!

Flights are actually quite alot cheaper if you fly from Lanseria to Cape Town

I used to go there Sundays and have their buffet breakfast, sit outside and watch the planes come in and take off - planes are FASCINATING!! Should check it out....

I have never been to Lanseria but agree with everyone to wait for you luggage is unpleasant so if it is a more pleasant experience I will be sure to try it out.

I prefer O.R Tambo, I have been to Lanseria once and did not like it.

I don't mind Lanseria but there is no security there. I prefer the international feel of OR Tambo. I enjoy travelling and I think from the start of the trip, which is at the departing airport, I want to feel like I am on holiday. Lanseria is too Dbn for me and only suits me for trips to Dbn.

Lanseria is closer to my home and quieter than OR T, so if I have to fly somewhere I prefer it.

Only been on SAA 1998 from O.R Tambo and then again 2010. I have no comparison unfortunately.

I definitely prefer Lanseria because it is closer and more convenient. Well done to them on their development.

I prefer Lanseria airport myself, its not as busy and mad as the OR Tambo international airport and also is much closer to home for me.

Im sure with the new developments there, it will become more busier for sure.

I love flying through Lanseria airport. It's not as crowded as O.R. Tambo and surprisingly enough, the airfares are a bit cheaper when you fly through Lanseria.

I must be honest, I prefer Lanseria myself because it is never over crowded. To wait for ones luggage upon returning is blissful and to board when leaving just as pleasant.

It is great to see development in SA.
