52,98 Million of us now

Statistics South Africa recently gave figures saying that the population of South Africa, according to its mid-year estimate, is now 52,98 million people. They estimate 5,26 million of those are living with HIV and the average life expectancy for a South African is now 59,6 years – being 57,7 years for males and 61,4 years for females which is quite low compared to European and American figures.
The population in Gauteng is growing the fastest with the population share dropping in five of our nine Provinces including KwaZulu-Natal as people migrate to Gauteng. 24% of the country now lives in our Province.

I agree with Simone. Not the most wonderful place to stay but its were the money is. I would love to stay in PE but again the money is in JHB. I also agree with a lot of comments here abut traffic and crime rates..... just goes to show.

South Africas population is growing rapidly, and everyone wants to be part of this rat race.
Although the salaries are higher in Gauteng the living standards are much different . The lifestyles of people are faster with much higher stress levels in their working environment.

HIV is the big problem as you can see from the statistics lots of people are coming to Gauteng for jobs.

A lot of people has moved to Gauteng thinking it is easy to get a job that pays good and like Simone said, it is not the most beautiful country but the money is here. Well I enjoy Gauteng.

Salaries in Gauteng are definitely higher than anywhere else in South Africa and times are tough so that obviously explains why there are so many people living here.

Many people migrate to Gauteng because they think they is too many opportunities.

I must agree with Simone. It's true, the money is here and that is why people migrate to Gauteng.

I really think we need to build double volume roads in Gauteng. Widening them isn't even helping with the increasing population here. They should also implement maximum capacity policies eg once there are 4000 people living in Fourways no one else is allowed to move there!

This explains why we are forever stuck in traffic the majority of South Africans all living in the smallest province.

Then it is time to leave Gauteng...... I've never been a "city" person - I very much prefer smaller "dorpies" - way less stress, traffic, no malls, only the necessities AND down to earth people.

HIV is a big problem. We don't have enough jobs to go around and to make it worse so many people are ill. Surely employers also need to look at employing healthy people who will not be off work more often than they should

Simone  said:

Gauteng is not the most beautiful place to stay in, but the money is here and so many people have moved here just because of that reason.

Cherise  said:
