The iPhone X

The iPhone X, which has been available for pre-order in the US from 27 October, becomes available for the first time today.  No doubt there will be long queues to get it, even though it is the most expensive iPhone ever brought out.  It is certainly the one that I plan to get, because I always go for whatever has the best camera, but I am a little bit disappointed that they did not increase the picture size from the 12MP that the iPhone 7 Plus already had and in fact kept it at the same size.  That does not mean they did not improve the camera, they have, but I would have thought that size, and the quality of the image and number of pixels, would have increased.

Everybody knows all about the new amazing technology involved in the design using the Oled screen, which apparently has the most accurate and stunning colours.  Most people know that the home button has been done away with and the phone now uses infrared facial ID to unlock itself, authenticate and even for you to use the device to pay people.  The Face ID apparently analyses 30,000 invisible dots to create a precise depth of your face – although I do find that my Microsoft Surface laptop cannot recognise my face most of the time these days!

Where the iPhone X - you apparently pronounce the “X” as “10” - does have some important new features including the fact that the 4K video can now be shot at 60 frames per second which obviously is far better for people who use their phones to capture, for example, their golf swing or a sports event and would like more in-depth slow motion.  At normal HD you can get the slo-mo in-depth as 240 frames per second with obviously a lower quality.  There is also a new beta form of portrait lighting that will give you what is allegedly a studio light, although I very much doubt it will match or replace studio lights.  The chip has been upgraded and is now the A11 Bionic chip.  It is amazing when you read that it is capable of 600 billion operations per second and you will be holding in your hand a computer that is more powerful than the American government would have had 20 or 30 years ago.

The new CPU is 70% faster than the A10 chip – the one that is currently in the iPhone 7 and (I should probably leave that for another blog) most importantly, they allege that the battery will last 2 hours longer.  The new iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 will not last as long.  Whether that is true we will see, but once I have mine, I will let you know more – not to mention the fact that of course you no longer need a charging cable for the iPhone X because it now has wireless charging, just as the iWatch has.

That is quite odd that they would keep the pixels and picture size the same. Shouldn't they have made it ten times better, funny how people would still go out and buy the new one when some features stay the same. But I think it will probably depend on what you will use the phone for. Some of the new features sound amazing. I like the wireless charging, but I don't think I will ever buy a iPhone unless I am very rich because I have heard that data is very expensive on an iPhone.

Wow another one. iPhone doesn't play . Sounds good that the battery will last 2 hours longer because I think everybody has a problem nowadays with battery life but it all depends on how many apps are running I guess.

Iphone is not my brand of phone i still prefer my Samsung, but one would expect the specs to be much higher seeing as the costs is. samsung has had a wireless charger for a couple of years already. i recall even my old LG had one. i have seen some of the pictures and i must say the phones visual looks is stunning

Between my kids and me, chargers are always an issue. A wireless charging phone sounds amazing.

Wireless charging appeals to me most. I've heard that the IPhone facial recognition is one of the most precise and accurate and that people's concerns regarding having a swollen lip or black eye are unnecessary. I'm glad to hear they've done away with the Home button!

I read an article which stated that it were cheaper to fly to America and purchase the Iphone X there then it would it be to purchase it in SA (flights included). The truth to this may be questionable with our ever unstable rand - however, it does make you think that within a third world country, such a purchase is reserved for the elite!

I do not have an IPhone and don't plan on getting one. It's super expensive and not user friendly.

I am excited to see this new iPhone it sounds awesome. I really hope that I can upgrade to this phone. It’s definitely a big advantage that the phone is coming out with a wireless charger no more struggling with wires.

This is definitely the best phone on market at the moment, I don’t think you can compare it with any other phone. Cellphone companies will have to step up their game if they want to compete with the iPhone X.

I have been reading up a lot on the iPhone X for a while and it has become my next have to have phone, I don't believe though that with the price, it will become a reality for me though. The new features are going to be incredible but together with all of the those, there comes the pretty price. Who knows though, maybe one could pick it up on a good contract deal?

I read that they introducing the A11 Bionic, which apparently has a neural engine that’s capable of up to 600 billion operations per second. which is going to make gaming look more realistic which would be cool to see.

I agree with Alexis way to complicated, I like phones that are quick working, I'm not really a phone person as long as I can call family and check up on my during the day I am happy.

Way to complicated for the likes of myself, all i need is the bear essentials and I am happy.
