Saving money on the Internet

I am probably a slow learner in this regard, but I recently found out that it is pretty easy to save money on quite a few websites on the Internet.  If you are doing online shopping, generally just searching on the company whose site you are using together with the word “discount code” will bring up quite a few websites fairly quickly that offer you discounts of at least 10%, but quite often 20% to 25%.  In fact, I have not come across a website for which a discount is not available yet and it just makes me wonder why I never did that before!

I guess it is similar to the principle if you don’t ask you don’t get, but this is a lot easier than asking and it is a similar principle that I always tell my staff – and that is not to simply tell me what something costs, but to phone another company and get a competing quote.  There are so many businesses, especially those who you have been working with for 1 or 2 years that are slowly starting to put up their prices and don’t react in any way until such time as you tell them about a quote from a competing company at a much lower price than what they are charging you.  I don’t think attorneys compete as much on price.  In the personal injury field they all pretty much charge the same amount, although of course there have been people who have been involved in charging abusive amounts, some of whom have left South Africa and others who are subjected to litigation with regard to their fees.  I personally think the attorneys by and large compete on results and service and in that regard I have been shocked by some of the big cases I have seen, under-settled by other attorneys against the Road Accident Fund, not to mention cases where the attorneys seem to never update the clients, not more than once a year anyway.

I never knew about discount vouchers, could be because I don't shop online. But that is actually very cool.
It's so true, I know of someone who had his insurance with one company for a few years and then got a cheaper quote from another insurance company and changed. A few months later his old insurance came back with a much cheaper prize. They are sneaky like that, they will notice that you are willing to pay a certain amount and then if you look again you are paying actually more than you can afford.

I am sure online shopping is extremely worthwhile and has many beefiest and specials, however I do prefer to go shopping to the mall or shops. I prefer trying things on and also seeing the actual items! Sometimes pictures can be deceiving. I guess I am just old school in that regard!

Ive never bought anything online Im to nervous it might not get to me. Even if I do go out shopping I hardly see any discounts or it is on things that I don’t need, time to shop online.

I am very bad at finding any bargains online and my sister is always the one to suggest to me that something can be bought for much cheaper. I will try this out and hopefully come across some good deals.

I love shopping online like for instant I buy from wish and they always have discounted prices for example something will be like R280 and then all of a sudden it will be R80 and the nice thing about wish is if you received your things and something is not in the package then you just log it in your chart and they give you a refund sometimes the product comes at a later stage but they still refund you.Netflorist on the other hand if you buy something for someone they ask you for 3 loved ones Birthday and you get R100 of your next purchase.

I love online shopping! I buy most of my clothing online. It is much more easier and convenient especially during the holidays! It saves you so much of time standing in those long queues.

I’m not a fan of online shopping, I’m a bit old fashioned in that sense, I want to try on the shoes or clothes and see if they fit and if they are comfy before I spend my money.

One online site that is a little puzzling but i am certainly not complaining is a site called Wish, it is an online e-commerce company. Its similar to eBay its basically small businesses and manufacturers that sell goods directly to consumers. Along with there discounts and promotions there are plenty free items that you just pay for the shipping which is also a minimal fee. The catch would be having to pay shipping for each induvial item so it does add up if you are ordering a lot of items but if you are getting an item for free and pay perhaps R40 or R50 for shipping its still a give away. The downfall is waiting for this item could take a few months.Any item that you do not receive they do indeed reimburse you which has only ever happened once and I have order numerous times. How they give items away for free or mark down to their prices in beyond me.

No I will not online shop. Nope. Nope. Nope! Old School is cool - want something, get to the shop and buy it. This results is instant gratification as well, so, win-win.

Usually with your first purchase online they do give you voucher's and promo codes, I really do enjoy the benefits and the convince of it all. and would choose online shopping over going into an over crowed mall, struggling to find parking and then to pay for the parking is way too much hassle.

Online shopping is the only way to do it now. I haven't purchased anything apart from groceries in store for the longest time. It is not only the discounts that are spectacular but the range that is a lot wider too. One is no longer limited by the stock available in store or size limitations. Its fantastic!

I love online shopping, admittedly it is a bit risky in SA with our postal service and such but I've bought many things on discount off of amazon or apparel stores and it works out great. It's nice to sit down and have a world of things at your fingertips. Even better when you get discounts.

I see a lot of adverts for discounts if you shop online, which is obviously so much easier. I just worry about delivery and whether the item I ordered is what I will get and whether the delivery will arrive! But by and large I think it may be the most convenient way to shop and if it can save you time and money, then it is well worth it. I'll certainly be on the look out more.

I prefer to just go to the shop hey...unless it is something not easily accessible. I am sure that they have to make it appealing to shoppers online...if not, I would assume that they will lose out.

I am not an online shopper. I am too nervous to buy online. If I had alot of money I would put it to the test but I do not have the money to take the risk.

I am proud to say I am an online shopping queen! I never pay full price with all my promo codes. I also check items on different sites especially clothing and textbooks. Even sometimes delivery food. Also there are trends like Sundays on Zando etc, you pick up on these things! The only problem is not having the option to try on things but I guess you can always send the items back just feels longer than going into the store.

Generally, if you are a first time user of an online shopping site - they entice you with a discount on your first purchase! Then you are hooked - but often as Sinead stated, I use promo codes for Uber.

I used to use this trick with Uber rides. There will always be a promo code or some sort of cheat code for anything and everything, to get a discount in this day and age.
There are a few food delivery places we've tried it with too, but sometimes with no success.
I think Groupon (back in the day) was basically a cheat code.

I don't do much online shopping because I'm very skeptical but I love those sites that give you "R300 off your first purchase" kind of vibe.

Personally not a fan of walking through stores, dealing with the heat and loud people as well as feeling claustrophobic in queues or fitting rooms. I agree if you don't ask you wouldn't know and it is very convenient having all this at your finger tips from the comfort of home and the fact that discounts are so prominent, who wouldn't want a great deal?

Michelle  said:

I'm not very comfortable to buy things online. I'm to scared I waste my money on things I do not really need and I'm also afraid to be disappointed if I get something and I imagined it differently. But it is always a good thing if you pay less than the actual price.

Fikile  said:

Sometimes it is not easy buying online because sometimes they say that they have a discount and they really don't and besides they sometimes don't deliver. i would like to pay for something that i can get now not after two or three months , worse part is you have to pay for it first. It's very nice if you go to the store and you find a discount because that means you can buy more clothes or other objects like grocery

Two favourite things shopping and saving money
I am really stingy with my money and will always look for a good deal

But also I prefer to go and check the reviews before I just see they offer a discount because I don't want discount and then its bad quality

I think people should always get a second opinion or second quote, to make sure they are receiving the best service. If clients receive good service they will carry on using that company instead of the other one. There clients will then refer them to use that company too.

I know there is a website, deal of the day or something of the sort. or voucher of the day, and each day they have huge discounts on lots of items from other companies, like a 50 % discount spa day, i have seen consort tickets and flights even. Its called One Day Only. Like the blog mentions, if you look for discount you will find it, always good to shop around for better deals, compare deals ect

It is always great to get the discount on any item we are looking for. Specially today with the prices so high!
I think South African online market is not that much developed as overseas, but there is still great deals out there with the big discounts.
I totally agree about the concept of you do not ask, you will not get!

I guess you do attract more customers when you allow for a discount be it a website or online shopping it is always appealing to a customer.
