The next variant of Covid-19 seems to, like the Delta variant, have started in South Africa. The speculation that it is a variant that has begun with HIV positive individuals – but right now what caused it is less important. What we need to know is whether or not the current vaccines will be effective against it, or if we are all going to get a new version of the vaccine in another 6 to 9 months’ time once one is formulated and produced in sufficient quantities to be available here.
It may well be that we have to live with versions of Covid-19 for many years and it is no wonder that the share price of one of the Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers, Moderna, went up with 20% on Friday alone. The Chief Executive of that company speculated that it was unlikely that the current vaccine would work against Omicron.
One thing is for certain, it is going to spread around the rest of the world and stopping the flights might buy other countries more time, but the truth of the matter is it is already too late and it is only a matter of days before every country starts having Omicron cases show up.

This Covid-19 thing is starting to be a bore for most people and it is irritating to keep talking about it, we are still going to be hearing more about it and to be honest this is very much annoying

With the various COVID-19 variants we have had so far it is clear that we might have to live with different versions of COVID for many years as you have mentioned. We just to adjust...

I have read that the Omicron infection generally causes less severe disease than infection with prior variants. Some data suggests that Omicron may cause more mild disease, although some people may still die from it. It remains important to take care of yourself.

Amazing to note the amount of cases we had with this new variant here in South Africa! and now, to think we don't even have a curfew anymore...

From what I have read and seen it seems to be a very mild version of the Covid that we use to know which is great news. I suppose that Covid is something all of us will live with for a very long time. I'm just getting tired of all of the media hype surrounding Covid, the vaccines, whether it is affective or not and when a new variant will pop up any time soon. Can it all just go away!

Ag there is so much speculation about all of this. I for one do not listen to all the main-stream media and hype around Covid. They are driving fear into people. And that fear is what kills. There are so few cases that actually lead to death that it amazes me to see how people feed into all of this.

There is no stopping it. It will spread, eventually.

Apparently it has not hit the US as of yet, but majority of countries has had cases. I have read that the symptoms are very mild, but still under investigation. Anyways, everything is in shambles in any event...so we can just wait and see what happens
