Car thieves target schools

During recent interviews that I heard on radio stations, the police have confirmed that thieves using jamming devices are targeting schools to steal parents’ motorcars. Apparently, because the parents often leave the car, they are ideal targets and the thieves are utilising jamming devices to make sure that the remote control does not lock the car properly. In other words somebody knows they have pressed the button to lock the car, and assume that the car has been locked, but a jamming device has prevented that signal from reaching the car.

This is a terribly frightening situation and people really have to guard against this very carefully because there are much worst things than your car being stolen – a parent for example leaving one child in the car while stepping out a few metres to get another child or perhaps load luggage up in the back of the car and having their car, complete with a child inside, stolen. However advanced the technology gets, it seems that the criminals are always just behind with some or other new device or technique to try and steal what amounts to the hard work of others. We invest our time in earning money, and then the things we bought with that money are taken away by somebody else, who believes his or her role in life is to simply steal what belongs to others.

It's annoying and frustrating to know that there is nothing we can do except be aware of your surroundings at all time. Maybe a bigger punishment for thieves must be implemented if they do get caught? I heard that somewhere overseas, when you steal, your hands get chopped off..

Very scary situation indeed. It goes to show how criminals are always one step ahead of technology not really behind.

Life is hard as it is without criminals making it worse.

Its so annoying especially when one works so hard to just get their possesions taken from them in a heart beat. Its not just about material items - like you say your child could be in the car. I must agree with Brumilde a friend of mine showed me how she learnt how to do it. It feels like the criminals go to some criminal training and always outsmarting the technology! I dont know if anyone watched Carte Blanche, but the cops are starting to find these theives and posted their pictures on the website and tv - should just have a look around you never know when you might recognize one of them.

This is scary and painful thieves are heartless people they just take and for what I don't know.

Imagine we work hard for everything but at the end its got stolen or taken away for drugs and alcohol this is sad really.

Majority of the people in South Africa have fallen victim to crime. Yes, we work so hard to build up our possessions and in the blink of an eye we can be stripped of what seems like a lifetime achievement.

There is desperation out there for jobs, for an income to survive and when there is lack in a persons life, they will go to any lengths and do whatever it takes to survive and unfortunately they take advantage of another's vulnerability. We can take any measure to try and protect what we have, but the fact remains, if they want it, they WILL get it, whatever it takes.

Sad but true.

When I heard about this, I now also walk around my car and check each door to make sure my car is locked. Although this doesn't even prevent anything happening. On Carte Blanche on Sunday they showed how a guy opened a car and took things from the car in under 30 seconds... When will we ever be more clever than the criminals? I just wish they could use their "intelligence" to do something positive for our country.

Nothing is scared anymore.

As Henrietta said, a life is more valuable than any material possession and yet it's someone's life that is often lost so that someone can get away with stealing those material possessions, from a car to something so small as a cellphone even.

It's a mixture of desperation and pure inhumanity.

Unfortunately that is the way of the world and unless you want to move to Canada you must deal with it, get one step ahead of the criminals. Don't be scared, just be aware!

I think that what makes me the most upset , Is that people work hard for what they have and to have your things stolen , damaged or taken from one is the worst feeling ever.

our neighbour was broken into yesterday morning , he was so lucky that his armed response managed to get there before the man could escape.

However , not everyone will always be that lucky in such bad situations. This is really disturbing.

I really wish these

This really disturbs me. I cannot believe that no matter what we do at the end of the day nothing we have worked for is safe. We are always looking over our shoulders waiting for someone to take something of ours.

It is such a shame that we are living in a world full of criminals. You can do nothing without turning your back and pray that you won’t be the target today. I can’t understand how these people live with themselves. My opinion is that a person’s life is more value than the car, house or money, but you get so frustrated that they get away with stealing the stuff you have worked your back of to get. Life can be so mean.

That is why one should always think about installing a tracking device when purchasing a new vehicle. It does add on extra costs, however, if it benefits you at the end of the day then extra bucks would safe quite a lot at the end.

The same with insurance on vehicles, homes, household goods and life policy. One must always have a weary mind when it comes to family and material goods. You never know when and how but always think ahead rather than having to regret at the end.

I do not think we will ever be completely safe at all because as things become 'safer', the safer system is just beat by the criminals again. Perhaps a solution is being aware and sometimes that also does not prove to be full proof.

i myself actually know how to do this you don't even need to special device. Scary thing.

This is so horrific!

Since I've heard about these stories, I double check to see if the car is locked every time my boyfriend and I are out.

I even came upon a website where they sell these "car jammers".

Quite scary.
