BlackBerry’s maker in more trouble

Over the past year BlackBerry shares are down 75%, and they have now replaced the two joint CEO’s who have both left the firm. They have gone from a 50% share of phones in the American market to 10% and people are asking where to next for BlackBerry?

Quite frankly, apart from the developing nations, where they supply a very economical package, including BBM, they are pretty much finished in my opinion, and the share price at a 75% down, is going to continue going down. I think they are headed the same direction as Kodak, Atari and the numerous companies who simply disappeared or have gone bankrupt. They may well continue to play a role as a 1% market shareholder, but they simply don’t have the products to compete with the iPhone or some of the new Android phones. The problem for them is that it is a vicious circle as well, the more bad news there is about BlackBerry and RIM, the less likely people would want their next phone to be a BlackBerry, so it is almost guaranteed that in the next sales or upgrades cycle they are going to lose out bigger than ever before. Now and then a company comes back when it is almost down and out, but I would not be betting on anything other than a continued fall for Research in Motion (RIM).

It seems that with Android and Iphone being all the rage right now blackberry has fallen far behind.

I agree with Dune, the bad luck happens across all networks barring obviously the 3 day BBM - RIM monstrosity.

I think everyone on BB automatically sticks to BB when upgrading as most of their friends/family or also on BBM. It is more pocket friendly and unfortuantely technology will keep changing, if you happen to be ahead or up to date. it won't last long.

So until further notice, BB it is.

I like my BB, I am not in a rush to look at any other phone.

I love my BlackBerry only because of the bbm and the free internet service. I am still deciding if I want to upgrade another BlackBerry or switch to a Samsung Galaxy. This is a excellent android phone and I have not yet heard any bad things about it.

I am still very happy with my Blackberry. I recently upgraded, and I got another Blackberry because I enjoy the phone and the apps it has. But there will obviously be a time when one needs to look at something different.

I enjoy my BB and I really think its cost effective, yes sometimes there are network problems, but it happens to other networks as well.
I would love to have an iphone as my next phone, but I will miss all the benefits of blackberry, free internet, bbm etc.
That is definitely the only thing that is keeping me from getting a different phone.

I love bbm I think it is very cost effective. I don’t think that it will die out anytime soon. I agree with Robyn the iPhone and Android are way too expensive to own and to keep up with the maintenances if something were to happen to them.

Couldnt agree more. Blackberry era has definitely come and gone. Think about it just like the HTC it came and went. Blackberry has so many problems - RIM as a start and then also freezing and our networks such as vodacom cant really do much but give us different excuses everyday why it overheats etc. Anroid is the future forward and I know alot of people who have already switched over. I think next phone I get will be anroid, wont be suprised if there is a copy of BBM and I dont mean Whatsapp but more like BBM. Something like Samsung Galaxy, HTC or Iphone will be my next phone even though Im really not a huge Iphone fan.

I am extremely happy with my Blackberry and certainly do hope that the end is not near as I enjoy it, perhaps more than I enjoy my iPad.

I was not aware of the shares and everything that is currently happening with Blackberry. I am enjoying my phone and had no problems so far.

I'll probably take a BB again when I upgrade. I'll have to see when the time comes. iPhone and Android are too expensive for my pocket and I don't see the point in spending that much on a phone.

I would love to get a I Phone for myself , I love the features and I see it is also becomming increasingly popular.

The only problem is I am a dedicated and loyal bbm-er. We will have to see what the future holds.

For now I am sticking to blackberry :-)

I must be honest, other than the odd signal down and the 3 days of bbm being down, i am still very happy with my Blackberry. The problem with modern technology is the rapid rate in which it changes and is updated. In a while, people will say, iphone, what iphone i want the .......... Watch this space.

BlackBerry is so overrated now. I have never had so many problems with a phone as i do with my BlackBerry, with buttons not working etc. I have never had problems with any cellphone that i have had and since i got the BlackBerry i have had so many problems.

Whilst it is great to have BBM and internet services etc., its not worth paying so much money for a phone that is going to break in a few months. At the end of the day, BlackBerry's were poorly made, and its no wonder that their shares are dropping so drastically.

I was not aware of the shares etc but I know that my next phone will definitely not be BB but rather aiming for iPhone or Samsung Galxy phone.
