Music changes quickly

One of the shortest life spans must certainly be as a club DJ - top of the world today and absolutely forgotten tomorrow. If I talk to my staff about some of the famous DJ’s in South Africa from 6 or 7 years ago, young 20 or 21 year old staff members have not even heard of them.

That is exactly the fate that awaits the vast majority of the club DJ’s they are currently listening to. Internationally of course, some of the DJ’s have lasting power, but some of them like Tiesto have done a complete somersault on the music that they play, moving from trance into house or progressive music. Tiesto, who was the world’s number one DJ for three years about 8 years back, is now number 3, number two is another Dutch trance master, Armin van Buuren who was the previous number one for four years, as listed by DJ Magazine and the new number one is David Guetta. I think they all have a long way to go before they can match Tiesto’s playing at the opening of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

David Guetta is an amazing artist! I love his work but also need to be in a specific mood for that genre of music. He's a legend!

My dad was a DJ!!!
(But then who wasn't back then, right).

Not really into that type of music but must admit I enjoy David Guetta. Armin van Buuren also has some magic in what he does - I enjoy his music - but as mentioned by another, have to be in the mood.

I agree with David. Paul Van Dyke I went to see him the other day and there were so many people there. It did not look like people had forgotten who he is.

I enjoy DJ Tiesto and David Guetta 's music - however I have to be in the mood for that type of music. It seems that everything Guetta touches turns to gold, but like you said, it will only last that long. Anyway, as long as there's always respectable music, I will be happy.

I agree with most, David Quetta is great and I also think he will be around for some time. Most off these DJ might not be number one anymore but they are also not forgotten.

i agree paul van dyk was great i like duetta not bad he does well because he mixes his music with different artists, i agree with angelique dj's are over rated these days,in my days as a dj it was much simpler and we played music to suit the people and what people wanted.too many males wannna be the best dj and there are to many male dj's here and they dont make it big,i also think there is a gap in the market for some female dj's but good one's please!!! jeez the one's on radio these days are useless

I honestly love all 3 Dj's. I agree with Dune saying that David Guetta is constantly collaborating with different artists and that is what makes him special and I truly think that this will be the reason he will stay number 1 for a long time to come. I did watch 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens especially and especially where Tiesto opened the ceremony and he was awesome. I think they gave him 60 or 90 min to do his thing. I must agree with David as well, Paul van Dyke is also very good.

Not a huge dance / club type of person, however David Guetta is quite reknown and does make really good music and quite diverse (well with the typical dance beat). But they do come and go and soon a new upcoming DJ will take over as we change the world changes everything else has to change!

I love Tiesto, even though he's not rated as the nr 1 Dj anymore I still think his music is great old or not. Same with David Guetta but he is an exception he is constantly collaborating with different artists which keeps his music interesting, and diffrent to other Dj's

I have major music appritiation for David Guetta. His music is absolutely funky and fabulous.

The plus plus for the various artists that have collaborated with David Guetta is that they have been "blessed" as he has breathed life into their careers again.

David Guetta is the BEST so far :) I love him! I went to his concert last year with my sister and we had a blast, his music is so over the top!

Those 3 dj's are awesome! I think David Guetta will be on top for a long time, he has been on his peak the last year or so! He is just on point! No doubt Tiesto is a great dj and has been for so long and I think as a dj you have a short life span but not for him! But dj's are overated! Local dj's come and go especially seen that so many young guys want to all be dj's! I think its a different story for girls though because there is a gap in the market :)
