It is always great to read what the executives are being paid, because it is always nice to have something to dream about, however far out of reach that dream seems!
The CEO of Vodacom, Pieter Uys, has just had a 25% increase, because the profits of Vodacom apparently increased by 25% and his salary, benefits and bonuses total R16,5 million for the last year, by comparison he earned R13,2 million and even the former Managing Director, as part of his remuneration, got a sign-on payment that left him with R8,6 million for the 7 months of the year that he worked at Vodacom. Quite clearly, there is a lot of room to cut call costs!

Are they hiring? :)
It is absurd, every single person that is with Vodacom is funding these absolutely ridonkulous salaries. Makes me ill to my stomach.
The managing director worked 7 months for Vodacom and then retired. What a life!

Accordingy to me there are so much executives that has the label but is hiding behind alot of the rest of the staff, then the one's who is under them does all the work and they get the praise and raise.
Then there is that little percentage that actually does deserve everything

Let's face it. If you were Pieter Uys you would obviously also believe you deserve every penny of your salary (much like you do now) or maybe you would even think that you deserve more than you're getting paid (much like you do now) :) I do however believe that there definitely are costs that could be cut somewhere. And if they made it cheaper, more people would use it so in the end it would add up to be the same as it is now plus some extra clients.

I have to agree 100% with you there. Why not share some of the profits with the people who are paying your salary in the first place.......................us the consumers. See the bigger picture, cut costs and more people will jump on board, ultimately, increasing your bonus so its a win-win situation.

that is really a nice benefit for executives as they have really worked hard to get to where they are today. I think it's well deserved if they have worked hard.

Just remember: they are so poor the only thing they have is money. At least we have laughter, love, and real happiness - not materialistic.

Unbelievable for sure. I think when these people claim they are now broke until payday they mean they are down to their last million for the month. Tough life they having

It would be great if we could pay less on call rates, and not have to fork out hundreds of rands just call friends and family. But the reality is that people have become so reliant on cellphones and the cellphone companies know this!
It is evident that the CEO of Vodacom has taken advantage of the fact that one just cannot be without a cellphone and at the end of the day, he has reaped the benefits of it.
