It is always, as a racing fan, good to see top horses and if you get the best horses in the world to race meetings, you will draw the crowds. Royal Ascot, about 45 minutes outside of London by train, recently had the two best horses in the world competing in the same 5 day meeting.
Frankel is the highest rated horse in the entire world, with a rating of 140 and he won his race by over 11 lengths and then on Royal Ascot on Saturday, it was the time of Black Caviar, the unbeaten filly from Australia. The jockey appeared to underestimate where the finishing post was but she still held on for her 22nd consecutive victory of her career, and has never ever been beaten.
You would not think, at prices of approximately £40 per ticket to get to the race, that you would get a sell-out crowd, but they did of more than 77 000 people with the result that I, who wanted to book the day before, could not even get a ticket to be there in the flesh.

I find horse racing absolutely confusing - probably because I dont have a comprehensive understanding of the betting which usually goes had in hand with it.
I think it is exhilirating to watch on TV and can only imagine what it must feel like being there in the flesh - even more so, having money on the race.

I have had the privilege of experiencing many different facets of horse racing. The first time as a student when I worked in the Darby Room taking bets for people who knew as much about horse racing as I know about the "higgs boson aka the god particle" but, they were there for the day to have fun and, fun was had by all, including the students. The second time was as a "punter" at the then OK Gold-Bowl where I was lucky enough to win money on Aquanaut - a horse who was sadly shot a year later for breaking his leg on a stable door. And then as a guest with David Fararis, a horse trainer who had invited my ex and I to come and see the soon to be ex racehorse "phifslady" we were purchasing for my daughter. So yes, to go and spend a day at the races, will always hold good memories for me. I love watching the horses in the parading ring and then watching those same horses perform in the race. A definite for anyone who has never done it before.

I never thought horse racing is so intense and exciting - it is, unfortunately, over way too quick. What a beautiful name - Black Caviar....

I think that one would think that in a race like this the tickets would be sold out the day before the race..... Horses are so beautiful animals

I think it would be amazing to be at the racetrack and see the Black Caviar race.
