Shocking reception along William Nicol

Not only do we pay excessive rates in South Africa for mobile phones and cell calls, but we appear to put up with shocking service. It is almost impossible to get a signal along William Nicol, for example, during peak hours, but even if you drive along it out of peak hours, you will get one dead spot after another.

This is a major road, in what is the economic capital of the country, where all of these cellular providers base their head offices and yet you can know with precise certainty the exact points where you are going to lose your phone call, and then have to call again if you are outside peak hours, because once you are in peak hours, you will not get a signal to make a call in the first place! It really amazes me what we have to put up with, at five times the cost that everyone else is paying for it.

It is absolute nonsense the prices we pay for bad service in this country.

It sounds bad. I thought this only happens in rural areas

OMG this is ridiculous, service providers must do something.

You'd think by now they would prioritise adding more towers in higher volume 'traffic' areas. It is ridiculous and extremely annoying to have to make 5 calls to accomplish one minute worth of talking.

It is really pathetic! I have that problem if I walk from one side of my flat to another... literally a few metres.

I find this extremely frustrating and irritating.

The only time I have issues with reception is when im in my kitchen at home, my phone cuts off completely, and then for reception to come back, i first have to reset my phone etc. It definitely is redicules I must say.

What makes it worse, is when you complain nothing is done about it, because it does not affect them. They will get their money at the end of the month. I agree with Henrietta, they do not care if it is an emergency or not. Nowhere does the headlines read "dead, because no network/signal". Shocking.

Lol . . it is sad but true . . Cherise hit the nail on the head . . During peak hours and with a blackberry you may as well not even have a cell phone at all . .

It is very annoying, happens all the time when I speak to my brother when he is on his way home from work.

Henrietta  said:

That is really bad especially in emergency cases. I do agree with what Cherise said sometimes there are no reception in your house and what do you do in case of an emergency and you don’t have reception……

Thats really bad hey, the service providers should really step up and sort out the problems.

Specially when you're on the phone with the boss and you cannot hear him which drives him nuts and leaving you perspiring. We do NOT always know what he is thinking :-)

The same happens on the R59, and David I agree I think I should get me a Scooter. 1ste of all I won’t get a fine for speaking on the phone and driving 2nd, petrol will be cheaper and 3rd goodbye traffic.

I have to agree with Robyn. This is beyond rediculous. What if there is a emergency and you need to make a urgent call?

cherise  said:

I have to agree that these cellular networks have parthetic signal and anyone who has vodacom as a service provider and a Blackberry can agree with me. During peak hours in certain area's , I mean even certain areas in your home you just cannot use your phone at all. This is really pathetic.

Angelique   said:

After 17h30 I lose signal every single day without fail when I get home. I have reported it to my cellular company and still nothing is being done. They pocket huge profits yet do not improve their networks! and why? because they know we NEED them they dont need us - lack of competition!

Jessica  said:

I think it is ridicules honestly, like when you go to the coast as well only certain networks work in certain area's you might as well buy every different sim card there is to be guaranteed cell reception. It is also sad how much people now depend on their cellphones nowadays .

Robyn  said:

It really is ridiculous. You would think seeing that we are paying five times more, the service should at least be AMAZING. Guess again.

a perfect reason to commute by motorcycle. you won't care about the dead spots because you can't answer the phone in any event.
