The extent of the success of businessmen from South Africa is not always appreciated by South Africans. Most people, for example if they heard the name Richemont, would understand that it is a South African company, and some might even know that it is run by Johann Rupert, but they really would not know the whole range of companies that this South African company owns throughout the world.
It makes 52% of its money from jewellery but they are also specialist watchmakers, not to mention the Mont Blanc range with its pens. Anyway, to keep this blog short, I will just list some of the brands that they own: Cartier, Baume and Mercier, IWC – they make extraordinary watches or at least my favourite watch, Piagut, Ralph Lauren watches and jewellery, Mont Blanc, Alfred Dunhill, Chloe, Net-a-Porter and Purdey.
That is about half of the companies that Richemont owns and it is no wonder that, despite a tough economy around the world, there operating profit rose 51% and their sales increased by 29%, because they really are involved in top quality products.

Very, very impressive. As Yolandi says, these jewellery lines must cost a pretty penny, so one should expect top quality. Hard work most certainly deserves reward.

This is good news to South Africa, we need people like Richemont for inspiration. Nowadays we are too focused on politics and corruption we are not going anywhere.

Richmont really amazed me, he is not only stick with one brand - he creates new upmarket and wealthy brands, which became very famous and expensive.
I believe he is on the very right track of business success.

If I'm not mistaken Richemont also owns Panerai - a very expensive, luxury watch brand. A few years back Ferrari and Panerai entered into an agreement to manufacture Panerai watches displaying the Ferrari trademark. Can only imagine how much these watches cost...

#Proudly South African - Personally it makes my heart swell with pride and hope that if 1 South African can do it another one can and so on and so forth.

Mr Rupert will certainly go down as an incredible businessman and human being. It was great to see Ernie thank Mr Rupert during his winner's speech at the British Open. He certainly has done an enormous amount for golf, especially junior golf, in SA and deserves lot of accolades in this regard. I can also remember him arranging for Schalk Burger's legal counsel when he was cited in the 2007 world cup. A great man and a great South African.

I have to agree that there are some excellent businessmen that are not recognised in this country or rewarding in the Major way other countrys would award these men and women.
instead all we do is focus on our corrupt politicians.

That is really impressive. I didn't even know that! Especially didnt know it was those well recognized and lavish products! Ofcourse not everyone can afford! But nice to see a South African so successful!
