The serious news about the various US agencies investigating Lance Armstrong for doping is worrying for anybody who has watched the Tour de France over the years. Cycling has had so many problems with drug cheats and so many winners who have later been declared not to have been the winner, but the last thing they can afford is that the man who has won the Tour de France more than anybody else, turns out to have won it on illegal substances as well.
I certainly would prefer to believe the story of a cancer survivor who fought back and won against all odds and then dominated in the Tour de France. One has to think however, with most of his former teammates aligned against him and ready to give evidence, and the persistent rumours that simply have not gone away for years that he is a drug cheat, there may be more truth in it than most of us would like to believe. He and his lawyers have certainly fought off every challenge so far but they have not faced one like this and from a lawyer’s perspective, when you start hearing about a case where he is trying to set aside decisions to investigate him and saying that he will not get a fair hearing, it just sounds like there is something to hide.

It would be very disappointing if it were in fact true. I tend to agree with you that he is going to very drastic lengths and is in all likelihood hiding something.

Why do people always have to speculate everything. This man has gone through enough and dealt with so much, more than ,most of us can ever begin to fathom.

I don’t understand why people who are so high in sports still try to cheat themselves to the top, when they know the truth always prevails

I do hope that the allegations against him are false. I have always enjoyed watching him cycle, particularly, the last stretch, the Champs Elysees. I agree with David, I too want to see him come out of this clean - it will make all the TdF's i have watched, worthwhile and not a lie.

I must say, I have all the respect in the world for Lance Armstrong, but I never liked him. For someone to leave their wife on Christmas day after she stood by his side while fighting off cancer. I don't think that he is as humble as everyone thinks he is. I love the tour de France it is probably the best gentleman's sport out their, and I must say I have learned a lot by watching it. My views about the sport will never change even if their are so may allogations of dopers etc, I think it must take one hell of a person to race the distances they do, doper or not, it's still amazing what they do

Lance Armstrong has been such an inspiring figure for so many people and it will very sad if these rumours are true. In fact, he has transcended cycling and become a sporting icon of our time. His fall from grace will be devastating to many people and not just cycling fans. Reminds me of how I felt when I watched the press conference of another athlete who I greatly admired, Marion Jones, when she admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs. Disappointment.

I must say that would be extremelly dissappointing if that is to be true. As I have really admired his story and achievements. I hope this is not true as bad as this looks/seems.

I would be really disapointed if it is true because alot of people look up to Lance Armstrong and even know that name. The things people to do to win a race! Really hope its not true though but you know what they say, where theres smoke, theres fire.

it would be very sad indeed if he were a drug cheat. i watched every one of his TdF's - what an athlete, what a champion. i like to believe that some guys simply have what it takes, and in bucketfulls - think Bruce Fordyce.
