A lot of people don’t realise when they launch an appeal against the criminal conviction and the sentence they get that they obviously risk a counter-appeal from the other side. The other side always has that right in the first place but normally bringing an appeal in the first place provokes it. Her appeal was dismissed and she is now in jail.
One has to wonder though why Sheryl Cwele, the former wife of our Intelligence Minister, appealed the 12 year sentence for drug dealing. I would have thought 12 years was a reasonably lenient sentence, and unfortunately for her the Supreme Court of Appeal thought so as well, and increased her sentence to 20 years. The Court held that as a qualified nurse she should know even more than most about the dangers involved in drugs and should not have become involved in drug dealing.

The SA Nursing Council has still not acted against her. First it was the presumed innocence before trial; after her conviction, the excuse was the pending appeal to the SCA. This is surely the end of the road. The Con Court has said so as far as guilt is concerned. The length of gaol time is neither here nor there as far as her criminal misdeeds are concerned. This can only happen in RSA: a trained nurse, with specialist training in community health, can be allowed to be a professional nursing sister!

I agree with Zandra! I however am quite impressed with the 20 years because usually someone in her position gets away with something like this! So I am impressed that justice is being served. I just hope she doesn't get off later.

I have to agree with Liesl on this one. As a parent, ones biggest worries are that your kids may fall of the rails. And raising children without the help of drug lord is difficult enough in today's day and age. I, for one, strongly feel that drug lords should be given the death sentence. They are killing millions of lives and destroying millions of families on a daily basis. A good book to read - Go ask Alice.

20 Years as opposed to a death sentance in countries like China. These people don't care what their dealings do to peoples lives, its all about the money. I don't feel sorry for her

I think the Court should have given her more years so that it will be a lesson to everyone.I dont feel sorry for her because she brought this to herself and she knew what the outcome will be.By being greedy, wanting to make quick money she has destroyed other people's lives nad hers too.

I thinkshe deserves more than 20 years for all the lives she destroyed with her drugs. She thought she could get away with it cause she is the wife of our Intelligence Minister.
What is got me worried is that she is a nurse, she deals with people on drugs often she should know better and she should know the consequences that her actions have caused.

she shouldn't have gotten involved with drug dealing in the first place, and i think 20 years is better than 12. but however i think some people that ends up in jail have a better life in jail than what they had before they got into jail....

I really don't have any sympathy for people like her. She knew what she was doing and knew that when she will be caught jail will be the consequences and she did it any way.

Thank goodness I now know this LOL shame, I think 20 years is still too little though, for the amount of lives she had destroyed with her drugs.
