Last December a 14 year old girl died in America after drinking two large cans of Monster Energy drink. The drinks contain 240 mg of caffeine, and under new Canadian laws drink with that much caffeine in them are going to be banned. This is going to affect the caffeine levels in products sold in Canada such as Red Bull.
While doctors believe that adults can have up to 400 mg of caffeine per day, they have concerns that this limit is not safe for teenagers and young people and can lead to heart-related problems. It seems particularly to affect people who may have an irregular heartbeat. I don’t have any information in this field of law on our personal injury website at www.personalinjury.co.za, but it is no doubt going to become a growing field of law in due course with many products that are sold as food and drinks and not necessarily always safe and subject to the same controls as, for example, new medicines would be.

Suppose it just proves the old adage right - moderation, moderation, moderation...

I think they should not banned the energy drinks but they should warn us about the dangers and another thing is if you over do something it is dangerous but when you do something in moderation then it is ok. I like monster a lot so I would have a big problem there.

I love coffee, used to drink a lot of those energy drinks!
But I believe coffee is like a drug, when you start and you cannot stop, how nice to be all the time full of energy and quick thinking! But with the time goes and after heavy doses of caffeine and after many hours of it being in our system, the fight-or-flight instinct gets reduced to panic attacks. Your hands become shaky, your skin sweaty, and you always expect bad things to happen to you. If we fail to get the dose of caffeine that our body has adapted to, we become irritable, tired, and even depressed. Actually, the caffeine in coffee and any other foodstuffs that has it is linked with dehydration. That is mainly because of caffeine’s diuretic properties.
The headaches, the bloated feeling and the belly cramps become keener with the added consumption of caffeine.
The body needs rest and when the body does not get it, it can lead not just to physical tiredness but also emotional fatigue.

I once drank monster and the next day woke up shaking and feeling very ill, I do not drink coffee at all and think that for people who have no caffeine intake experience the affects worse.
I dont like monster or any energy drink for that matter.

I am not a fan of energy drinks. Everything has some negative effect no matter how healthy you try and eat or live.

I think if we want energy we must rather drink like "barroca" or energy tablets described by a Dr, this energy drinks are like smoking we know it’s bad for us but still we smoke.

Red Bull gives you wings :) I agree with Alexis, they shouldn't take it away but they should make us aware of the dangers but I know I will still drink it even if they make us aware of the dangers. I just wont drink a lot of it.

Some food for thought for sure. I know of a few avid athletes that enjoy their energy drinks. This article certainly raises questions in my mind. Proper warnings should be put on the drinks if their is cause for concern.

To think the things we put in our body on a day to day basis. I am not one to talk, i drink about 5 cups of coffee a day but it cannot be worse than drinking a few cans of Red Bull, Play or Monster. I think that they should at least make people aware of the dangers of all products sold as they do with smokes etc, hjoever do not take it away as it is the ppersons choice at the end of the day
