Fat, sick and nearly dead

I recently watched a movie called “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” which is a movie by Joe Cross which is really about weight loss and eating healthily. There is a website that has followed the movie called “Reboot your Life” and you can find it at www.jointhereboot.com .

What is really inspirational about the movie is that it shows you people that are terribly out of shape, starting with Joe himself, and then followed by a truck driver called Phil, and how they lose a tremendous amount of weight. When you see with your own eyes how dramatic the change is for these individuals, one cannot help but feel inspired.

Basically the idea is to stop the junk food, get a juicer and go on a liquid food and vegetable diet for 60 days while losing a tremendous amount of weight and getting one’s health back. Of course you can do it for shorter time frames and the message is not that you must have a juice diet, but it is ultimately that we need to stop putting rubbish into our bodies and understand that the vast majority of diseases and illnesses that we currently face are really self-inflicted. The movie itself has won a number of documentary awards but it is not going to suit everybody – you need to be open to hearing that what you eat and drink is bad for you, as otherwise you are not going to enjoy the film.

This movie changed my life. A friend recommended this movie – I watched it and thought, “what the hell? It’s worth a shot.”
I bought a juicer, some fruits and veggies beyond the normal stuff I kept at the house, and went to town. The first few juices I made tasted like horrible! The first keeper I got consisted of a few carrots, a red bell pepper, and an orange. I drank it and felt a weird tingling in my body, kind of like smoking a cigarette if you’re a non-smoker. I had to lay down for a few minutes. I looked on some juicing forums and found that this is a common reaction, and by my fourth day of juicing, the bad reactions were gone and replaced with an overall feeling of well-being I had never known in my adult life. By the end of my seven-day juice “cleanse” I felt FREAKING INCREDIBLE. I had shed 4.5 kg of fat. I don’t juice like Joe Cross, but I do juice everyday. Sometimes it’s every meal, sometimes it’s just my lunch (I don’t eat breakfast). Just depends on what I’m in the mood for. However, I do juice fresh berries and an orange to mix with my protein powder for a post-workout shake that is better than anything I’d ever had before. I do this daily because I work out daily. To everyone wanting a list of juices, google that stuff and experiment on your own. I prefer sweeter juices, so I’ll use bell peppers with oranges or apples and a couple carrots, or a beet juice with beets and tomatoes, maybe some celery. For protein shakes, I’ll juice whatever fruit is on sale: grapes yield a ton of juice (1 cup of grapes gets me 3/4 cup of juice) and go great with oranges. Blueberries are my favorite to juice, though. Cherries are great, too. If you’ve never seen that movie, you need to. Whether you are fat like I was or a regular “Jane” or a gym rat, there’s something in that movie for you, even if it’s just to shift your thinking a little bit.

I also have a juicer and lately I have been having carrot and ginger juice to skip meals on the weekends. It is too big and noisy to bring to the office during work. Other variants are spinach and apple, or celery, tomato and beetroot

My bf watched this movie in America in June and told me all about it. Apparently it is incredibly inspiring and really motivating. I tried to watch it online the other day but was unable to do so because it is limited to the US region. The Breville juicer from Australia is brilliant and was used by Joe in the movie. It is definitely a fantastic purchase for anyone wanting to juice.

Ladies , you have Zoo Lake next to the office , why dont you run during lunch time. It will cost you R0 and it will not take your time from kidsin the evening. Just drink your cup of coffee, put on your running shoes and go for a 20 min jog and later when you get fit, a good run.

Eating healthy is time consuming and much more expensive. But I would like to watch this. Like Cornelie said, once you are in the routine, one can only benefit. And besides, how difficult can it be to put everything into a juicer? Less dishes too.

Please Michael advice, where we all can get copy of this movie or I can make copies for everyone in the office. I will be very interested to watch this movie as well, I would like to create the right diet for me and my kids!

Wow, not to be funny, but how do you get that way in the first place. It is as though people do not care about themselves at all. But big ups to them for making a plan and losing the weight. However in my personal opinion, i do not think that a liquid diet is good for you at all and cannot provide you with much nutrition. Do they exercise as well. I must admit that this movie will give everybody the wrong idea as to how to become healthy

If I could just get my lazy bum to start excercising, I'll be fine but I'd also like to see this movie to get some ideas/recipies for the juice they use maybe.

It takes a lot of self-motivation to eat healthy but once you have the healthy life style you can beat the fat life whish i had the self-motivation to eat healthier

I would like to see this movie aswell. It takes a lot of self motivation and determination to remain faithfull to a diet especially when you have more than just a few to shed. I also stopped smoking and my waistline was attacked. Its been hard to shed and its taken a long time to get this far

Nowadays its all about covenience, in all aspects of our lives and as mentioned that its just easier to grab a pizza or Mc Donalds but doesnt equals healthy. We need to put in the time and effort, and need to encourage a healthy life style in our children while they are still young.

I dont think I could go on just a liquid food and vegetable diet for 2 whole months. That is quite ridiculous. But I am interested in watching. I agree with Lucretia once watching these kind of things it only inspires you and makes you want to get fit. I once watched a documentary on a guy who ate Mc Donalds every day and how terribly sick, fat and nearly dead he became!

I think the biggest problem is not having time to cook and eat healthy when we are getting home late or rushing to go out while Mc Donald’s, KFC and Debonares Pizza is on every corner and makes it so easy just to get takeaways.

Have not heard about this movie but would be curious to see same. They say giving up smoking is healthy, well it did nothing for my waste line and now I am battling to lose the weight. Maybe a movie like this could get me into the "thin" mode again.
