New currency

I recently got some of the new notes, and I am sure by now most of you have come across the R100,00 and R200,00 notes which I was really impressed with. They are probably a little bit too modern for the average person’s taste, looking very much like money designed by some young artist with fluorescent sparkling green on the R100,00 note indicating the amount, but hopefully they achieved the purpose of it being less easy to copy and I am sure everyone will be very happy to see Nelson Mandela’s face on the notes. I hope that they can keep some of the animals, because I think that is a tourist attraction in itself, as there cannot be too many countries that have buffalo and wild animals on their notes, and certainly not the kind of wild animals we have, but having Nelson Mandela on the notes is also something to certainly be proud of. Let me know your opinion on our new notes?

What a complete waste of money and resources. We don't have schoolbooks for children in the rural provinces. We have many people living below the poverty line. Millions lack electricity. Millions lack running water. Yet we are fixated on Mandela's face on the back of a monetary note; the majority of the population cannot even draw such note from an ATM because they have no bank accounts nor such resources. Surely the money used toward changing our currency could and should have been put to a proper and better use - like fixing schools, providing for poverty-stricken people and actually fulfilling the "promises" that the ANC continues to drum up every time an election is around the corner. And we should be proud??? Of what, betraying the most vulnerable members of our society. Well done SA. Another proudly SA moment.

The New Notes are Very Nice, Just to think all those notes coming out of an ATM has never been used... Their numbers follow brand new money... Hope it not only changes the notes but every person feels proudly about our country... I like them...

I dont like the money I find it to be way to bright , however , it has become very similar to other africa currencys. I suppose it was only a matter of time that Mandela was going to be put on our money. Just the colour is so bright.

This brings a whole new meaning to "loud and proud". I also have not had the "pleasure" of receiving a new note yet, but it sure will brighten up my purse! I do agree that it will take some getting used to, as to me, it looks a little fake, like Lucretia said, board game money!

I am very pleased that the big five remained on the back of the notes though, as this is what South Africa is mainly known for. Change is good yes, but i hope this is the last time our currency will be changed.

I think it's a good thing that they have the new notes as we had the old notes for some years now and hopefully they don’t take away the animals as it’s a nice attraction.

I love the new notes. I was recently in Swaziland, just before the new notes came out and the money there impressed me because of the presidents face and the bright colours. I remember saying to friends, it looks like board game money. Then ours came out and, much to my amazement, the one thing that stands out the most is the colour. And, having been within arms-length of Madiba and experiencing his charismatic charm, I am proud to have his face on our currency. Yes, in terms of our new currency, I like it, well done Pravin Gordhan!

i love the new notes. have heard some people commenting on the brightness, and others saying it looks like banana republic cash - nothing in comparisson to money in netherlands, their's is really bright.

I personally still have to get use to the new look. But yes, it does make one feel proudly South African.

I think it's so pretty! I love them. I haven't had the pleasure of owning one of the new notes yet though :( I like everything about them. It's nice to be proud of something as we don't often get that chance.

I really like them, it is a change and they still have the animals on there as well. Shows all of the things we are proud of and it is very nice to have a change. Change is always good
