We have always heard of one or two schools with one or two pupils that use steroids in an effort to get ahead. Getting ahead of course is quite relative because you are now taking dangerous substances simply to excel at schoolboy sport where there is not even any money involved! It is amazing now to read reports in the Sunday Times that for example in March alone 175 pupils on the East Rand tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.
It seems that there is constant and never-ending pressure on young people to try and do anything to get ahead, and it is not only silly but it is also very dangerous – what about the young man being involved in the scrum expecting to come up against a young man of a similar size, but comes up against a mismatched steroid fed monster who is 10 or 15 kg heavier than perhaps he should be, and all of it muscle, that he would never have had if his body was growing normally. It seems that children are certainly becoming more advanced in every single way and from steroids all the way through to the photographs and videos that they are taking and sending around, people are getting into things they should not do at all probably, and in some cases much earlier than they ever should.

Really is sad that young people do not understand the harmful effects something as bad as steriods and supplements has on their bodies. They really need to be more eductaed about the harms of this.

I agree with Juliet. It's always something. Even if they know about all the negative effects, the way they look will always be more important. Look at girls with eating disorders for example..it doesn't matter how unhealthy it is.

This is really a tragidy as these are the children of the future.
Steroids makes you aggressive as well, some parents are even scared of their own children.

I’m totally against steroids. My one friend’s dad was using steroids while he was conceived and because of that he actually had the same problem as Castor Semenya.

One of my friend's, boyfriend use steroid and from what I heard from her I can only say that I agree with all here. I have seen the way he get aggressive and loss his temper easily when he use steroids. And when he doesn't you see a completely different side of him. Boys and men just want the easy way to build muscles not realizing that they are ruining their life.

Schoolboys are always under pressure to belong to a particular group (peer pressure) otherwise they are not considered to be cool. I believe they should be more informed/educated in what they get involved in to enable them make better choices. The unfortunate thing is that, they seek advise from fellow students unlike parent sor teachers.

I think teenagers should be educated in the harmful effects of these steriods and that these drugs should become more like a schedule 2 to 6 drug and is not available so easily to these youngers. In this manner the use of these drugs is more controlled as well as restricted giving all teenages an equal opportunity at playing sports at school.

I have a frien dwhom is on steroids. He does not compete in any sports and is really a very nice guy considering what this stuff can do for you. Some people just want to get that body and are fascinated by it. However to do it on order to cheat at sport etc is pathetic. You are going to cause serious problems in your later life as most have not even developed proprly as yet.

True and this is totally wrong, I don't understand why they are doing this to themselves at their early age. What is the point of excelling now because you used drugs and not been give a chance to excel in future were the money is involve
