The year 2012 is drawing to a close, and while Amazon has a list of the top 100 books, and the order of how they are selling on a daily basis, they also have a list that gives a more accurate picture of the entire year. That list is dominated by one author, E L James, who has the top three books in order, with the bestselling book of the entire year being Book 1 of the Fifty Shades Trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey.
To have the bestselling book of the year is an incredible achievement but to have the first, second and third bestselling books of the year is not only an achievement, but it is going to make you extremely wealthy and successful! I guess 2012 will turn out to be the year where more erotic literature came to the fore. I still have not read one of the books but I do enjoy the reviews such as this one, “You must read this! Oh, it’s awful. Don’t get me wrong about that. It is just as badly written and edited as its predecessors. But, as I’ve said before, it is literary crack. So bad for you, but so addictive.”

Personally the book annoyed me to the point that I could not finish it and went and bought a new book.It was so badly written and predictable, I personally have no interest in the books what so ever.
Glad other people enjoyed it , I tried and just could not.

The only reason that these 3 books have done well is because of the publicity and hype that surrounds it.
The public were literally bombarded with the existence of the book on every corner. You could literally not flip to a channel without not hearing some sort of reference being made about 50 Shades of Grey. This way the hype and curiosity was increased.
It became a situation that one just wanted to read it to understand what all the whoha was about.
It is poorly written and repetitive.
I must agree that the book has sparked people to read again which I suppose is good and credit is given where credit is due.

I absolutely love reading and have to admit, that authors like E L James (50 Shades) , J K Rowling (Harry Potter) and Robert Kiyosaki (Rich dad poor dad) must have made a fortune out of me. An interesting new study has found that Amazon is only the cheapest option on its top 20 bestsellers, with books further down the chart costing 14% more than competitors. The survey, by global marketing consultancy Simon-Kucher and Partners, analysed the prices of the top 100 print books in the UK while Amazon, was the cheapest option for its top 20 bestsellers – 6% cheaper than competitors – for books ranked 21-50, Amazon charged a premium of 13% compared with the lowest-priced alternative, and for books in its top 51-100, that increased to 15%.

I will probably read it once the hype has died down, if I feel like it. When there is so much excitement about something I am generally disappointed after expecting too much, just like the Lord of the Rings and Twilight and all of those nonsense movies (don't hate the player!)......

Although many of the reviews might be spot on, I want to read these books to make up my own mind. Often people say what they don't mean, but mean what they don't say. So they will comment about it being terribly written and so on just so that they would not seem over eager on the "juicy" bits but they were probably the very ones who could not put the book down.

Only reason i'll be reading Fifty Shades of Grey is due to the fact that Ian Somerhalder has been cast for the movie. A friend informed me that the auther uses two common phrases and taking a sip of wine each time the phrases are used will lead to intoxication after a single chapter.

Haha, love that review. I haven't read it. I've been told "READ IT!!" So I will but while I'm all for the erotic stuff, badly written books irritate me. So I'll have to see how I find these books. I've also been told the first one is great but the other two not so much.
