Being there, when you are not

I was sent a link to a YouTube video, illustrating a product from a company called Suitable Technologies, called Beam. Essentially, it is a television monitor on stilts at a height of 1,58 metres and the monitor can be driven around from its dock, where it charges, around your offices. It is used, and this will terrify staff at many companies, to interact with your staff at work, when you are not there and the companies feel it is extremely effective, because it does not mean that people have to go to a computer terminal to be able to speak to the person on the other side – the robot can roam the office and thus you can speak to anybody anywhere.
It has 6 microphones built in with noise reduction, for full audio awareness as well as two wide angle HD cameras to cover the full spectrum. The pricing for now is the only problem with the product, but no doubt it will come down from its current price of $16 000.

I have to agree with Angelique. Skype is still the better option. It could smaller than a normal person but it's a lot easier to knock over. I remember seeing a 'Beam' on an episode of The Big Bang Theory. I don't think it would work well in small spaces and where there are stairs to tackle :)

Awesome, can we get one for our houses and work from home. Just think, we will be keeping a good 60 vehicles, from our offices alone, off the roads. That way we will have more space than need be and come into the offices as and when we need to meet with clients. The savings on our petrol alone will allow us to pay for the Beam :-)

I personally dont think this will work in our office because of space but i do like the idea. Skype I have to agree with angelique seems more sufficient to me.

I agree with Robyn, one of these days we will have one "walking" around at the office. I think it's pretty awesome though. P.s I think my office is awesome too :)

Ha ha ha ha ha how cute, the only problem is does it know how to climb stairs? Open doors? lol if it could do that then it will be worth it's price but other than that you might as well keep with skype it's cheaper.

Wow technology! I think I've seen it all now! This is weird! Its pretty expensive and in a small office space I think someone might hit Mr Beam over. You definitely will know when the boss is there. I'd still just stick to Skype. Safer and cheaper.

Looks pretty awesome to me! No doubt we'll get one at the office in a while..? Or more than one.
