Research in Motion, the makers of BlackBerry, have firstly decided to change their name to BlackBerry. That makes sense, because BlackBerry is their only product, and to have a name that has so little to do with the product they were selling is a bit strange. The shares are up 40%, although that is off a very low base after a major slump, following the release of the new BlackBerries overseas. They are meant to be fantastic phones and it is simply a question of whether or not the damage done to BlackBerry over the last year or two can be undone by a great phone.
Microsoft after all, also have a great phone, but is has never sold well, so just having a great phone is not necessarily going to resolve your problems if the brand has been terribly damaged. Amongst the features, if you take a photograph of somebody, is that on each person’s face you can click and dial through about two seconds and choose the expression on the face that you want and that way hopefully get a picture where everybody is smiling correctly at the same time.
The predictive text is also meant to be better than any other phone, which means with typing very few characters you can in fact type long sentences and it adapts very quickly to your style of writing, so it can do it quick and fast in future. BBM has been upgraded to allow free calls over the Internet as well as video and so it is no doubt going to be a huge success in South Africa, where BlackBerry has always been strong and it is simply a question of whether or not they get back some of their supporters in the United States and other countries and whether BlackBerry is indeed back. Talking of good products that have never sold well, WordPerfect was always the best word processor in my opinion, and those of most people of a similar age but Microsoft, through bundling together all its office software at ridiculous prices, eventually killed WordPerfect with Word and so the superior word processor got beaten – so it is not always a question of what is actually the better product!

I am personally getting a little exhausted trying to keep up with all the new phones coming out! I am starting to become one of those cynical people who just dont see the point anymore of owning a fancy state of the art phone. A phone has a maximum 2 year life span, some even less, and i just cant justify paying so much for something that barely works most of the time. I am very disappointed in BlackBerry and i dont think anything will change my mind about them, no matter how fancy their phones get.

There is still no chance that I will move back to BlackBerry, Biggest disappointed of a phone I've had. I like to keep mine as a 2nd phone just to stay connected with my friends on BBM, but that's how far it goes. I am in love with Apple.

I must say I hope this phone will boost BlackBerry back to where it was as android and apple overtook the market completely. I will definitely not go back to blackberry as i absolutely love my Samsung note 2.

My BlackBerry has been giving me a lot of problems, but I save a lot of money using BBM and not smsing or calling the whole time.

I really do like blackberry and would continue with the brand but it seems to always have some form of problem. So I am now loving the new iphone 5 which also has the issue of signal problems.
I dont know actually what phone doesnt have its problems. But one thing is for sure I no longer trust Blackberry

I have to listen to Podcasts very often so I know more about this stuff than I would like to admit…
I recently got the Samsung Note II and I absolutely LOVE it. It’s got an enormous screen, the stylus, quad-core processor (where Blackberry 10 only has a dual-core) and it’s running jelly bean.
I love Android and will never go back to Blackberry.

I don't care for the cellphone. No different from having a stalker! The only reason I have one is due to the nature of my occupation!

I can say the same about myself as what Julie said but it is one of my new year’s resolutions to learn more about modern technology. This phone sounds almost too good to be true!

Maybe by introducing Smartphone’s they will also improve their service; they must be given a chance.

I upgrade in October and was thinking of getting a different phone to a BB, but after hearing about this phone I have my doubts. Guess I'll wait and see what other people have to say about it, because if it freezes like all BBs do and the BIS is always down I really do not want it.

The photo feature and improved predictive text sounds awesome. I like BB and I will probably continue to use it because it is simple, my battery lasts long, and I have never had a problem with mine (I have had 3). I don't even use BBM, I use Watsapp so it is not about anything else except I am used to it and it performs. Easy

I must admit that I haven't been very happy with my blackberry and have been wondering whether I made a mistake upgrading to another blackberry. But if they are promising better phones perhaps we shouldn't give up on them yet

I must be honest, I am happy with my Blackberry. It is up for renewal end of this month and I am quite keen to see the new models and what they have to offer. I have always liked the features on the phone even though I don't use all the features. PS, I am in the same age bracket as you Michael and I have to differ when it comes to WordPerfect :-)

I am one of those people lol. I do complain about my blackberry a lot of the time but I will probably still buy the name when I'm ready to upgrade. I used to be like that about Nokia as well. I do agree that a 'great phone' cannot undo the damage already done but it's all about technology these days =)

#TeamBlackberry I think this will definitely be a hit in SA - many people in SA are still huge supporters of Blackberry. I know I am and just glad that they have sort of recovered. Just hope it doesnt have any problems

I like Blackberry, say what they want :-) I just hope that they really live up to the standards, because the Blackberry devise I have now will look fantastic in pieces, broken against a wall :-) But good for them for upgrading and it sounds like a good phone to have. I will consider this phone.

I have to agree with Robyn that I don't really like the "look" of the new Blackberry 10, but I am very happy with Blackberry and will probably upgrade to the newest version when it is time.

I'm really hoping the phone doesn't look like the pic.. but if the phone is that great, I will definitely be sticking with BlackBerry. I was going with Samsung next but if this phone is available when I upgrade, it shall be mine :) Yay BB!

Speaking as a former BlackBerry user, I am happy that they have been able to upgrade the software in terms of RIM. BlackBerry made smartphones available to the whole population which I believe is the only reason they remain as popular. Honestly, they can learn a thing or two from Apple and the iOS system as it has not caused half the headaches that BlackBerry has over the years.

Technology is always changing and becoming better and ore efficient. The days when things were simple are over. As much as Blackberry's name has been damage, there are people out there who would still prefer it over anything else
