A daily update, indicating the fuel price, which is boring for most can be obtained at this link http://www.cef.org.za/images/petrolprice/daily.pdf
What is interesting about it, particularly if we take the basic fuel price, is that it shows you how much of it is made up of taxes, so the basic fuel price was R7,52 on 21 March 2013 for 95 unleaded. While the Rand has recently lost value against the Dollar, trading at about R9,30 on 22 March, we are lucky in that the basic fuel price on the international market has gone down during that time.
On a Rand basis we should be paying approximately 21c more a litre at the beginning of April but the international price has gone down approximately 43c during that time, so if it was not for the extra government taxes to be introduced and the extra money to be paid towards the Road Accident Fund, we would be looking at a slight decrease in the petrol price at the beginning of April. However add in those taxes and we are looking at a probable increase. Obviously, it again illustrates how important the Rand value is to us. If the Rand had stayed at the same level during this period, we would be getting a decrease despite the extra taxes going into effect.

The Rand value has been low for the last couple of months and a result of the fuel increases the cost of living is just rising by the day. It is scary to thinking one month you purchase an item at a supermarket at X price the next month it is double X.

Not all of us are economists and in light hereof, I would really like to see someone put all this jargon into layman's terms. How does the man on the street know whether or not we are being "screwed over" or not. We sit back and just accept what is happening, are we being told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth - I doubt. Transparency is it too much to ask for?

I am not really worried about the increases in fuel prices. It might mean you need to lower your living standards a little but at the moment I dont beleive it is something to be concerned about

With the petrol price going up cost of living will be too high.
Everything has already gone up and most people wont be able to afford to put food on the table every day.

Fuel prices are ridiculous. I drive an average of 170km to work and back every day and the ever-increasing price of petrol is really, really hurting my pocket.

The problem is that its not only the fuel price that increases everything else also increases (food, tolgates ect.). This is getting ridiculous. Dont even want to imagine what it is going to be like in a few years time...

I hope at some point there will be a decrease or two to level out the increases we have been suffering in the last coupe of months

I agree with Angelique. I don't want to hear or see anything about fuel prices unless they are talking about a decrease. I might not be driving at the moment but I know how frustrating it is and in the near future it will be me complaining... Lol

Unless the price goes down, reading anything about fuel prices just depresses me. I'm just grateful that I live 6km from work!

I am a little bit worried about the fuel increases. I think a lot of people are started to stress about price increases ie. food, electricity etc. nevermind fuel.
The way things are looking now, we are going to be paying to get to work and barely have food on the table. It is a scary thought.
