One ARV pill a day

I was impressed to see adverts in many newspapers, placed by the Department of Health, for new HIV medication. In the past people used to take the triple cocktail therapy, taking three pills at a time, and obviously that is far more difficult than simply providing people with a combined medication that allows you to take one pill and once a day only.

I think people don’t appreciate the massive impact on HIV in our country, and of course we had the terrible years during President Mbeki’s time as leader of our country during which the issue was ignored. Recommendations were made by our Health Minister at the time that one simply needed to have garlic and, if I remember correctly, beetroot to cure oneself and we have thankfully come a long way now. The new fixed dose combination pill is provided by the Department of Health and it has all of these three different ARV medications all combined in the one pill so that too is a positive step and will help save many lives.

With this fast growing epidemic, why don't the World Health Organisations not make an HIV patch. A monthly patch that has the necessary quantity that will be released every 24 hours or, however, often it needs to be released. This way, its a matter of popping on a patch, once a month. Problem of remembering to take the pills solved.

One is better than 3 and hopefully it works. Like many said maybe one day they will find the cure for HIV.

It is great news that different ARV medications is combined in one pill. My concern however is if a person is in general not disciplined, whether the pill is one or more it will not be of any effect.

We will now just have to wait and see if it actually works

This is very good news that the pill became one as I can think it can work out a lot of money to buy a lot of pills to help you get cured.

I agree agree with Thabitha, being an out patient at Helen Joseph I see hundreds of people in the queue waiting for ARVS its actually scary to see so many people infected and this is a daily prucedure there.

I'm hoping that along with the good news of 3 pills becoming one that the cost of these pills will also not be too expensive.

It is a much better solution. Remembering to drink one pill is hard enough never mind a bunch.

Well done to our health minister and his deparment it show's that we are going somewhere as a country. I am positive that one day HIV will be cured

I think this is a much better and simpler solution. HIV has been so overly emphasised around the world that I think people have become desensitised to it and dont realise the impact it still has on societies.
