One of my most exciting experiences was attending the African Nations Cup Final in 1996, when South Africa won. I certainly was not in the majority in that particular crowd in the old Soccer City, but there was a wonderful spirit and tremendous excitement in the stadium.
In South Africa there has always been a lot more interest in local teams, as opposed to the national teams and that was a time of rare exceptions. I would be very interested to hear, specifically from those who read my blog, as to which local teams they support – whether it is Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Supersport United or any of the other teams. It looks like this year the Absa Premiership is going to be won by Kaizer Chiefs but there is still a long way to go and it is still relatively close at the top of the table.

I seem to have grown out of sport etc - I never supported a local soccer team in any case and do not really have the inclination to do so right now

I don't mind watching soccer but I will not go out of my way to watch it or I will not have a specific team I support.

Oh...I won't ever forget the excitement and the country as a whole standing as one - patriotism and pride as I've never seen or experienced - an awesome time it was indeed.
Kaizer Chiefs......

I like watching soccer and it's now obvious that the Kaizer Chiefs will win the Asba Premiership as Orlando Pirates just lost in their game with Mamelodi Sundowns

I support different local teams all the time :-) Just depends which team my friend moves over to or more than likely the team that keeps winning. At the moment however, I think I'm leaning more to Kaizer Chiefs or Ajax! I am really not a loyal supporter.

I don't enjoy soccer at all. In the spirit of things I supported the world cup and shared in the excitement of it all as it was a great opportunity for our country.

Soccer is quite frustrating to watch. Why do people like watching a game where max 3 goals are scored? I only enjoyed the World Cup because of the excitement and not necessarily because of the actual sport.
