BlackBerry has announced, after a very lengthy wait, they will be making BBM available on other platforms such as the iPhone and Android systems. Initially, BBM was obviously meant to be a BlackBerry only system, but with the fall in sales and the fact that challenges such as WhatsApp have taken a valuable piece of the market, BlackBerry had to reverse this decision. It would make it difficult for existing users to continue to remain in the BlackBerry world if, every time one of their friends migrate to another system, they can no longer BBM them, so BlackBerry had to change course and applications are expected to be released shortly.

With a large number of social platforms they need to be able to make BBM more user friendly, not everyone wants to have Blackberry, but they will still be able to use this social platform that will be an advantage to the users getting new phones and that are still able to keep all their contacts and chats. Although I think this is going to have a drop in Blackberry sales as the people would not need to buy a Blackberry anymore and can use it on any other phone. This is great for the users but I am not too sure if its going to be a good investment.

As a social network junkie I am so on board with this! Sure you have so many other social platforms for communications like Whatsapp, Viber, weChat etc . . but the fact is that so many people would rather stick it our with a "crackberry" because of BBM :) just saying

The only reason I took a blackberry again was for BBM, a easy way to communicate with family that lives far away but my next phone will be a Samsung, I am so sick an tired of all the problems I am having with my blackberry.

I have never had any problems with my blackberry but its great news that bbm is going to be available on more than blackberry phones. Knowing that you are not bound anymore if you feel like a change you can now make it

One of the reasons why I purchase my Black Berry is to use bbm, very good news that other phones will have bbms too, I would like to change my phone because my Black Berry gives a lot of problems. I believe on the market so many different services for cheaper and for free and bbm soon will be used by not to many people!!

I have never had bbm but a lot of my family and friends have it, i agree with Angelique it useless talking to 1 person on 2 different social network. And whatsapp is easy enough.

I agree with Simone that is Brilliant! I will soon be enjoying both whatsapp and bbm.
I don't mind either of these chat applications.
As long as I get my message through to the person I need to communicate with.

I have been won over by iPhone... never thought I would see the day! BBM what?? Whatsapp is enough, I was just saying yesterday its so pointless speaking to the same person on different social networks! I just need one!! Whatsapp Thank you!

Terrible news... BBM is a pillar of destruction in social interaction (family and friends get togethers are ruined by the ever constant BBMings going on) and with a migration to other phones it will only extend the destruction of society.

This is fantastic news! Blackberry is dying a slow and painful death and i find myself wanting to throw my phone against the wall more often than not. So if BBM will be available on the iphone and the like i will definitely kick the BlackBerry out.

I only use Whatsapp because I don't have any friends who own blackberries. So it makes no difference to me, but I do want to get the Samsung S4 and thinking of opening a FNB account because you can get it for R100 cheaper per month as a deal if you do than through any service provider.

I agree with Sorea, I only stayed with Blackberry to have the convenience of being able to talk to people and not have to pay R 1000.00 a month on airtime alone. But now that has been made S4 here I come lol

I'm with Sorea on this one. Although, I planned to migrate from Blackberry many months ago - not only because I heard about them getting rid of BBM but because Samsung and iPhone have much better Apps that Blackberry have not introduced yet

I think most people use the Blackberry mainly for the BBM from I what see wherever I go someone busy on the phone people on the bus are on their phones from the time they get in till they reach their destinations

And bbm is the only reason I stayed with Blackberry in the first place. Nice to know that I can now get rid of my "Crapberry" for a proper phone. :)

One of the reasons I moved away from Black Berry was to stop using BBM. I dont know if this will work though as I cannot see that BBM on other platforms will be free and that was their main selling point. Why would you pay for BBM when you have already paid for Whatsapp on your phone.
