Most people who have had a hangover will have suspected that hangovers do lead one to not functioning at your best. New research has indicated, apart from all the other symptoms of over-drinking, such as nausea and headaches, that as suspected, the brain also functions much worse after alcohol. This is not really a surprise but the interesting part is the actual effect on the brain and that is that it affects your working memory, which is your ability to hold information in your mind and work with that information. That would be the case, for example, if you are doing mental arithmetic. Apparently, once you are hungover, you would typically make 30% more mistakes than normal and it would lead to somebody, who are in their 20’s, having a reaction time equivalent to someone in their 40’s – which will not thrill the 40 plus brigade, of which I am one!

How strange is this if you are drunk you as clever as can be and when you have a hung over you are not that smart. Then you say to yourself why why why until the next time.

I could understand that most people suffer from bad hangovers...... but really if you know you have work the next day and you know you have bad hangovers whats the point of making yourself suffer the next morning

I love to have a good time now and again but I absolutely hate a hangover. I prefer to have a good time on Fridays or Saturdays to have a full day to recover I normally sleep the whole day to get rid of a hangover. I am just thankful I dont get in the mood to drink often.

I think the saddest part is that people keep on drinking after they have had hangovers. How can you freely sumbit yourself to that over and over again.

Alcohol controls your mind and makes you look stupid. Most people do silly things that they tend to regret at the end of the day.

Helen, i agree !we killed germans by our cold winters and because they were always sober they froze to death in big numbers ,while russians were rolling around drunk( which makes you more patriotic). But if serious post alcohol day makes you depressed and anxious, the whole world seems foggy.

I haven't felt like having a drink for about two years now and I'm quite happy about that. Not that I ever really drank enough to get a hangover. Like Juliet said, alcohol is poison.

LOL very appropriate indeed Bianca... I don't know why people drink to the extreme of having hangovers and/or being drunk the next day... Everything in moderation

Yes, fully agree that hangover will make you feel terrible at work place and stupid in the way. But why to get to the point of having hangover next day? Like David said drink clever you will still be drunk next day. Let's take Russians, I do not think that these the most stupid people in the world but I can guarantee that one nation which drinks the most. Even from the history as example how did we manage to win Second World War to get thru cold winters? as soon as Germans step on territory of Russia, lots of them died from cold and hunger!

Alcohol affects the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe controls attention, short-term memory tasks, planning, and motivation. So it would make sense that it would make you stupid
