Bars misleading drinkers

It is only a matter of time in South Africa before we hear more about bars misleading drinkers. This comes after the manufacture of a device called the True Spirit Authenticator which has recently been made available on the commercial market overseas. This device tests the various types of alcohol and can tell you whether or not it is the brand that you are paying for.

Recent tests where the device has been used in America have already led to the chain T.G.I. Friday’s settling with New Jersey state for $500 000,00 after it was discovered that, for example, when people order Bombay Sapphire Gin, they were not actually getting the brand they were paying for, but as you may suspect, in all cases were being given a cheaper brand. Apparently, many restaurants and clubs rely on the fact that people mix their drinks, and once they have mixed, will not notice the difference between a cheaper alcohol and a more expensive one and often substitute the cheaper one. This device, once it becomes more available around the world, is going to lead to some very embarrassing exposés for some restaurants, bars and clubs!

It's sad that you can't get what you pay for really.

I dont understand that people can always have money to go to bars and drink till the last penny is gone but they struggle to have food in the house bars are misleading people.

that explains why some people claim they have bigger hangovers when they drink at bars and night clubs. severe hangovers come from the cheaper alcohol and not from drinking more . at least it is a nice excuse

It's really sad. I mean just like Jessica said you work hard to have that drink and if that is what you, that is what you want not something similar but cheaper I mean that is just as good as stealing.....

I'll remember to just buy the cheaper brand - you likely to get it anyway! Give that man a cheap Bells!

This is something that I think will be great to make sure you get value for your money. It's stealing actually if bars do this

I think it's unfair for drinkers they pay lot more money to get best brand and they are given a cheaper brand

I have heard it all, that is really wrong that people are paying for a cheaper brand at the price of the expensive brand. Bars and restaurants caught doing this should be seriously penalized.

Brumilde  said:

Really think that after about 5 or six drinks you don't even care that what you are drinking is real or not

It is sad that these sort of devices need to be invented because the "bottom line" becomes more important than honesty. How will it work though, will each patron get to request the devices use every time they order a drink? Because only then will it truly work.

Is there actually anywhere, where a person tries to not do the cheap way and try save a buck? I mean in all fairness people do work just as hard to make that buck and if they going to spend it on something they enjoy they should be getting what they pay for. GOOD for the guy that made that thing. Give that man a BELL's

Alexis  said:

Everybody is always trying to make more money - they water down most drinks when you go to certain places and do not give you what you ask for - you should just order the cheapest then at least you pay for the cheapest instead of buying and paying for something they are not actually giving you
