BlackBerry, which makes the smartphone by the same name and which used to be known as Research in Motion, is now trying to sell itself or find somebody who would like to do a joint venture with them. BlackBerry’s worldwide market share has apparently fallen the whole way down to 2,9% and the company’s share price over the last 5 years is down 92%. On the plus side the company does have $3 billion in cash and apparently has no debt but it has a product that, apart from one or two countries in the world, and South Africa is one of those countries, it does not appear to be able to sell its phones with much success. It would be surprising if the brand still exists in a few years time such has the dramatic fall been.

Samsung has just announced their phones will also now have BBM on them - so you don't even need a BB to BBM!

Upgrading and getting rid of my Blackberry was definitely the right move. iPhone has its issues but works much much better than BB.

I would have stayed with blackberry if there wasnt as many problems, I must say I switched to iphone but still use my blackberry (not as much) but I just cant let it go - no matter how many times it freezes, switches off or annoys me. Perhaps I am holding onto the little bit of hope I have that one day it will be back on top.

I think the nature of the cellphone industry is as fickle as all other consumer industries. Motorola is in every American movie but no one buys them in SA. Blackberry had a cult following and is now near buried. IPhone and Samsung must enjoy their current hey dey which will also come to an end upon introduction of the new "it" phone/tablet/pad etc etc Consume, consume, consume

My crapberry became a distant memory the day I almost flushed it down a toilet .... where it belongs. In stead of that I rather switched to Samsung.
The thought of flushing it still has some appeal though.

Reading this it seems that it is not only good enough to launch a good product but it's also important to remain at the top of your game to keep your market which seems to be the real challenge. The proof is in the pudding and if your product is not all you said it was you are going to be left in the dust.

Same here - will not be doing BB again. It was fun while it lasted but as everything does - this has faded out and over and done with

My next upgrade will certainly not be a BlackBerry, it comes as no surprise that their sales have dropped drastically as BlackBerry has to be one of the worst phones on the market, i have never had so many problems with a cellphone as i have had with my BB, so i will definitely be switching to Samsung very soon.

Everybody at some point had a BB, in a couple of years time, very few will actually know what it was. It will most likely become like Fresca... A distant memory.
