There is only one topic around the world today. Nelson Mandela died last night, Thursday 5 December. Everyone will have their own thoughts own memories. Mine will be of his release, of shaking his huge hands over a fence at the Wanderers cricket ground and how a country that was meant to go up in flames didn’t, largely because of him. The world media came to South Africa in 1994 for a blood bath and civil war and neither transpired. He had a wonderfully long life, and an incredible one and one can only think how all of futures would have been different if he was not the leader he was at that crucial time in our history. If he had been an ordinary politician like the ones we have now instead of an extraordinary great man.

He is in a better place now but I say thanks to the farther of our nation that he had hopes and dreams and not only did he live them out but he conquered so much more. He will be remembered from all over the world. He was a great man - even a legend that South Africa and the world has lost and will maybe never see the likes of again. One of his many inspiring quotes - "It always seems impossible until its done
' R.I.P Madiba

Remember myself in University when we were doing articles about economy foreign countries I have picked up the article about South African Economy. I supposed to do the essay for about 20 min. And opening that time Russian books from 1997 and 2000 was amazing how much was written about Mandela and how much he did for South Africa. Great MAN will leave in so many hearts all over the world. R.I.P Madiba and all my condolences to the family

I remember in 1990 when Mandela was being released from prison, many a family in Kenyan who were privileged to own tv sets, were glued on them and the majority were beside their radios listening to the speech. This is how an icon Nelson Mandela is to the world. R.I.P Tata Madiba.

"No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." - Nelson Mandela
And this is what he managed to teach a nation consisting of many races and cultures. I hope that his message will live on.

R.I.P to the father of our nation! He can finally rest in peace and not suffer. I knew he was an icon but today I really saw it, the news, the social media - he was loved and known by the world! He fought for our freedom and I am extremely proud to have lived through this era. Everyone is mourning and celebrating at the same time. I've never seen so many sad people in a long time. He touched the world! Thank you Tata Madiba.

This morning there was a sadness that filled the Johannesburg streets. A sad day but a great life to be celebrated. Madiba may be gone but his legacy will live forever in each and every south african who remembers where our country came from.
