I receive regular e-mails from people who have their own claims with the Road Accident Fund, something that I have discussed on by blog before, but what was interesting was a recent e-mail I received. It read, “I would like to get your assistance in completing a claim against the RAF. I have since lodged the complaint myself as I was encouraged by RAF staff while in hospital. I have found that the assessment conducted by the RAF appointed doctors is not fair. Can you help and represent me in completing the claim?
This illustrates precisely why so many people are now doing their claims with the Road Accident Fund directly – it is not so much out of choice, but because agents of the Road Accident Fund approach them while they are in hospital and encourage them to do the claim with them. The motivation for that process is undoubtedly the fact that it will be far cheaper for the Road Accident Fund to settle the claim without the involvement of attorneys than it will be with the involvement of attorneys and that is not just because there will be additional party and party costs in the matter, but because in so many cases those matters are settled for far less than they really are worth. It is exactly the same with the train cases involving PRASA where our firm on average settled the cases for about 8 to 10 times more than the R10 000,00 that PRASA offered everybody. There is of course also a saying that people deserve the President of the country they live in, because they after all vote for him or her, and I suppose if one had to be critical one would have to say we deserve the level of service and the compensation that you choose to get. It is just sad however that so many people are naïve, because they don’t do the research before agreeing to allow the Road Accident Fund to handle their case.

I logged a claim over 10 years and never got anything. 2 years back I started suffering with server back pain , I now have 3 disks in my spine that have sever issues. Only recently did I remeber that after this accident the physio did inform me that I had loss of fluid in my spine.

I was in a motor vehicle accident in 2004, my father made use of a attorney as I was still under 21years of age! 3 years into the claim I got notified that I didn't qualify for compensation! I wasn't the driver of the vehicle and I had some serious injuries! My face had more than 270 stitches and my head multiple injuries. I would just like to get expert advice and maybe a chance to claim again.

The RAF has an obvious talent in deceit and mock modesty. That's why I think it is a very good thing that our firm advertises as much as we do, it is informing the public that they do have alternative choices.

Sometimes people think it would be quicker when doing their claim directly with the RAF-but at the end of the day they'd probably just end up frustrated.

It is never a good idea going straight to the RAF, they do not want to pay out as much as your claim is worth - rather go to an Attorney whom knows what they are doing and will help you get what you deserve

Huh, so the RAF now has ambulance chasers.
These claims never end up being settled for their true value when the public goes directly to the Fund.

This is the level our country works at, take all our money and rob us from what is ours at the end of the day. There is always a way to try and get more money from us and at the same time keep money away from us. I was actually quite shocked to see that the Road Accident Fund also now have an advertisement on Dstv. They are seriously doing everything they can to reel people in, and this by making it sound like they actually care? Reality check!!

It must be human nature in general. People don't want to study for a degree because 3 years is too long to invest when they could be working and partying for those 3 years. They can't forecast how they will hit a cap in their employment and to proceed past it one needs tertiary education.Same as the RAF claims, people want instant satisfaction and are not prepared to wait.

How horrible are these RAF staff, going to the hospital and talking to patients while they are still very vulnerable? Obviously they have no sense of professionalism or any pride in the work that they do...And when the client decides halfway through the matter, that they actually made a dumb move not getting a representative or someone to handle their claim, they have to pay more at the end than they would have paid if only they didn't listen to the RAF staff...

To be misinformed or not informed at all can be a great cost. Especially if your matter is being under settled because you went with the RAF directly...
