Now that 2013 is behind us, another list is out, and that is of the most successful movies during 2013. I looked up the worldwide grosses to see which movies made the most money in theatres around the world and while some of them are still in circuit and will continue to earn a little bit of money in 2014, the biggest movie for 2013 was “Ironman 3”. It grossed R1,2 billion around the world and some R409 million in the USA. It was also the biggest movie of the year in the USA, narrowly holding off “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”. Other huge hits include “Despicable Me2”, “Fast and Furious 6”, “Monsters University”, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”, the new animation “Frozen” as well as the science fiction hit “Gravity”. Of those movies that I watched, I probably enjoyed Gravity and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire the most.

I'm surprised that "Long walk to freedom" wasn't on the list giveb the hype around Mandela's death, unless it falls on 2014's list?

2013 Definitely was a year of brilliant movies to hit the big screen! I thoroughly enjoyed Gravity, Hunger Games and The Hobbit, I am yet to see the rest listed above.

Out of that list of movies mentioned, i have only watched the Hobbit which was brilliant. I'm not surprised it is one of the top money making movies of 2013.

Tanya, you should be delighted to know that the Fast and the Furious 7's initial release date of April 2015 was extended due to the untimely and tragic death of Paul Walker. (Incidentally he died in a car accident ...)

The new animation Frozen was great. Me and my husband took kids to cinema to watch 3D version. We even enjoyed - beautiful music and story for kids . "Iron Man 3" disappointed me, maybe it did make money but was not that strong as pervious movies.

All that I hope for is that they do not make fast and furious 7. Talk about killing something. Its over people.

I must admit I have not watched most of those movies. However, I would think Hunger Games: Catching Fire would have earned the most with the amount of people raving about it over most social networks, but then again a lot of the movies get cheated with the amount of piracy that take place.
