I really enjoyed The Wolf of Wall Street, even though it is a very long movie. There are far too many movies these days where the directors feel that to make a statement or tell a story they need 3 hours and I honestly do believe that in many cases justice could be done in the normal 90 to 100 minutes. I am glad that Leonardo di Capprio has been nominated for an Oscar as a result of his role in this movie – it is once again a superb performance by him and overall a good movie – especially for those who like watching others live a life of excess and take, in many case, the wrong path in life.
It is a true story, no doubt exaggerated somewhat, about a company involved in fraudulent share dealings and selling on any stocks to unsuspecting investors who suffered losses, according the research I did, of approximately $120 million through these dealings. The company eventually even got a main street designer to let them take their products to the market in an IPO, in the form of Steve Madden, a designer of shoes, and he eventually went to jail for four years for some of his activities while involved with this particular stockbroking firm. The recipe they had, as detailed in the movie, was not to bother, initially at least, trying to sell things to rich people eventually because they said rich people were too clever to go and buy rubbish shares and shares selling for small amounts of money and that that is typically something that appeals to poor people who are more keen to try and take a chance. The profits were spent on all the usual things one read’s about – cocaine, hookers, strippers and eventually a new wife and it is certainly worth seeing if crooked business people, and what they spend the money on, interest you. I don’t think it is going to win any Oscars, but I do think that it is a good movie and worth seeing.

I think the life of the extremely rich must be extremely boring after all, if you have everything, been all over, own way too much, what else does one have to look forward too, hence drugs becomes so rife almost an escape goat of all you have. The more one has, the more one has to lose and that, in itself, becomes a constant battle to keep.

The movie title didn't really catch my attention, but after reading this blog about it being based on a true story, I am now very interested in watching it. I love movies based on things that have actually happened, and although it may be exaggerated a bit as stated in the blog, one can get a just idea on what took place. The saying is true, never judge a book by its cover, or in my case... a movie by its title.

This was such an entertaining movie!
With regards to Sorea's comment, Belfort and Wozniak (the apple co-founder) will be talking at the JHB Success Summit 2014, I would absolutely love to go and learn a bit more about business and making something of yourself from people who have made it. Unfortunately it also falls on a Monday during work hours.

I really enjoyed this movie, and Leo plays his role brilliantly. Its a little too long but worth it to watch. I must admit I was shocked to see how some people behave when they get rich. Really sad actually how money can change some people in such negative ways. I agree with Angelique hopefully people don't get any ideas...

This has been one of my favourites movies so far this year! The in's and out's of wall street, the drugs and the prostitutes, probably exaggerated but intriguing nonetheless. In the end, it turns into an inspirational movie of someone who turned his life around and became a motivational speaker! I could watch this movie a million times over!

Did you know, Belfort was the final owner of the luxury yacht Nadine (renamed after his second wife) originally built for Coco Chanel in 1961.

I love Leo and he has a special place in my heart since the Shakespearean masterpiece! I want to watch this movie as soon as it is on TV. 3 hrs with no loo break is not an option for me right now. I heard it romanticizes drugs and excess but I do love these wild movies where you get a look inside the lives of the rich. I believe that these movies really reflect reality no matter how insane they seem. The normal working person will never comprehend just how wild some peoples' lives are.

I absolutely loved this movie! It was far too long but nonetheless worth the watch! Leonardo DiCaprio definitely deserves an Oscar and I'm certain this movie has put him back into the spotlight! Just hope it doesn't give people idea's about going into that business to 'get rich quick'. It's crazy how everything falls down and in the end even his 'new' wife leaves him. Too much money, love, drugs can make you go crazy especially if you don't have any of it anymore.

The main "character" turned his life around, and became a motivational speaker. He is coming to South Africa for a talk.

Looking forward to watching this, especially when the movie sounds factual. I'm a huge fan of Leonardo Di Caprio and really enjoy Jonah Hill's acting as well.

I read somewhere that Jonah Hill, wanted to be in a Martin Scorcese movie so badly that he offered to play the role for only $60 000. This compared to De Caprio's rumoured $10 million paycheck. At least he has an Oscar nomination to show...
