The South African Reserve Bank website can be found at www.resbank.co.za and it details the role of the bank to achieve and maintain price stability so that we can have balance in sustainable economic growth in South Africa. AMCU need to hear that, with their ridiculous wage increase demands. What is important for most employees at this time of the year is the consumer price inflation rate, otherwise known as CPI, which indicates how much prices have risen from one year to the next. The latest figure available is that CPI is 5,9% and that will guide most increases given in South Africa – those who have done well will get 5,9% or perhaps more, depending on what industry they are in and those who have not worked hard in the last year, or are unfortunate to be in an industry that is struggling are likely to see less than that rate, if any increase at all.

Be grateful, do what is required, work hard and stop messing with the economy. Peopla are natuarally greedy and ungrateful - it is so sad

The more money people want, the more their expenses go up and the more they find themselves needing more money. Their salaries will never ever be enough.

AMCU members will keep on demanding more money, even when the company they are working for will have to consider closing as the running cost will become to expensive. These members only think of self enrichment and for them its only about taking more...

My father was in an industry affected by the strikes and high demands and as a result of this, his company liquidated and the doors were shut. This was done with no notices whatsoever, he received a call on a Sunday afternoon letting him know not to come to work the next day. The consequences are devastating.

Even if AMCU members were paid what they are demanding, it is likely that next year they would strike again for even more money. More is never enough. Reasonableness and thinking about the ramifications of their actions on others, as Lucretia has pointed out, is not evident.

The sad thing with AMCU is they have no idea the ripple effect their demands are causing. They were interviewing people in the Rustenburg area this morning who have business relating to the mines, they were saying how many have had to close their shop doors and how many families have had cars, etc repossessed. Is AMCU going to pay their members salaries.
