The Oscar Pistorius trial is about to begin again, with speculation that Oscar will be the first witness to testify, as is normal in a criminal case. Another major case is about to start of course, and that is the Dewani case with probably South Africa’s least favoured international guest, Shrien Dewani arriving in South Africa for his trial. We have made an agreement with the British authorities that if his mental condition deteriorates, he will be returned and it is hard to imagine that his condition will not deteriorate when he is put into a South African jail, however much special comfortable arrangements are no doubt made for him. A flight from your home to a country where you no longer have any of your friends, or your supporters, and where you are accused of committing a terrible deed, as well as new circumstances, is quite likely to provoke anybody into a state of depression, let alone a man who appears, from all accounts what we have heard so far, to be unstable in the first place. The evidence seems overwhelming and I really do hope that a proper job is done so that Shrien Dewani may face justice. One thing is for sure, the media is going to be incredibly busy this week with court case stories!

I have to agree with David, would love to be kept abreast with the day to day running of the trial. This man, in my opinion, reeks of guilt.

I really do not have any time to watch either of the trials I'd much rather relax in front off a movie then seeing other people get locked up, these sorts off thing give me 'n negative outlook on life and makes me worry.

If this is the beginning of the year...... Wonder what the end would be like... Murder is murder whether planned or accident even if justice has not being served the person guilty will have to live with all the consequences for the rest of their live and if this doesn't depressed them.... they really are psychos....

He knew what he was doing when he committed the crime. All the people that he hired are serving sentences and he though he will get away with it.
Its time for him to face justice and I wish he gets a life sentence.

After all these years he still looks like this, I don't think he wants to shave, talk or do anything.
I hope justice will be done but I dont think hes going to stay in jail because of his medical condition.

I am sure that all these additional factors will definitely have an impact on his mental state, which I hope he does not hide behind so that the trial not be able to proceed. Should he be found guilty, I wont feel the least sorry for the man,

All these trials, so many bad things happening in this world and innocent people getting killed every day and for what. Just leave, no need to kill, never a reason to kill. Oscar and Shrien both need to get what they deserve and pay for what they have done.

hahaha@David. Dewani is a sick twisted mind, he should get at least 20-30 years of jail.

Oscar trial, bleh, i've lost interest, don't even know what is happening anymore. Dewani, lol it still makes me laugh to hear that he is suddenly "mentally unfit" or whatever, i mean if i was accused of murder because my murder plans didn't turn up the way they were supposed to, i would also claim to be mentally "unfit". what a joke. I haven't really been keeping up with this trial but i think i shall start, hopefully i wont stray away like i am with the Oscar trial.

His trial should definitely be televised! I will definitely be keeping my eye on the news this week! Terribly sad but exciting! Justice will be served as the world's eye's are on us!

Oscar is not going to be called first as initially thought. Apparently the pathologist is being called first. And about Shiren, I am feeling a bit depressed about the robots in SA and they have given me PTSD, so can someone please allow me to get away with murder for 4 years, and also be looked after in a nice hospital setting with my breakfast, lunch and dinner being brought to my bed please?

Murder of girlfriend / wife .... seems to be becoming a trend in South Africa... One pleads insanity, the other pleads intruder. It is becoming too easy for anyone to create an "excuse" for their actions, and then hope that they get away with it. I really hope justice will be served in both these cases, and they both get the sentence they deserve irrespective of their claims of "innocence" if you can call it that. Will be very interesting to see how these cases end.

I hope Oscar's trial has set a precedent for future cases to be televised. Very keen to know if Shrine's will be televised too.

Feeling annoyed that everyone is tiptoeing around this guy. I know his case still needs to be heard but there was no mercy shown to his wife, her human rights were not given any thought and her mental/emotional well being not considered at the time of her murder. Oscar has been going through emotional melt down with his trial but he is facing it can this man show a bit of character.

I am extremely interested in both cases however I have been waiting a long time for Dewani to come back to stand trial (I am glad that the system worked in this one). I doubt that the Dewani trial will be televised however it would make for very interesting viewing! It would really benefit the families involved staying overseas to have the Dewani trial televised, at least they are not completely in the dark.

Yet again another exciting trial, I agree with David that the trial should be televised. I have heard rumours that an application may be brought to have the trial televised. So much excitement on the legal front this year.

i wish this trail was televised too. Between Shrien and Oscar it's been a very entertaining year so far. the saddest thing is that both were beautiful women. The world is full of ugly women, why couldn't we lose 2 of them?
