Not the smartest cookie

The media loves to use photographs of Christoff Becker in his oversized sunglasses, with a black vest that barely covers his chest and necklaces hanging down.  It appears to be the outfit he wore when he left prison.  He is one of the four boys in Waterkloof who beat a homeless man to death and they received a relatively short sentence and got out of jail far faster than one would have expected.

He and a friend celebrated this, it would appear, by distributing a video of them partying in prison and clearly making out that prison was a lot more fun than people would like to believe.  There was a lot of criticism of the sentence in the first place, saying it was too lenient and anybody with any common sense, aware of all the media attention of their release would have tried to make a more subdued departure from prison, perhaps even more suitably dressed.  That video immediately got two of them back into prison for at least another year.  He has now followed that up, when he clearly is a marked man who has embarrassed prison authorities with his partying video, by now being caught in possession of a cell phone in his cell.  Not only will he spend longer in prison now but he has already been transferred to a maximum security prison much further away from his Pretoria family.  The reality of the matter is that they never spent enough time in prison in the first place, they should have come out of prison very quietly and not said a word to anybody and one assumes that when he is next released he will be more subdued, more sensible – and possibly with a different look.

It makes me so mad to know that people are walking around freely when they have murdered people. Getting special things done for them because they are this or that. This is the second blog of the week were we are discussing people who have killed some one. This is terrible... what is our land coming to???? But hey if your stupid your stupid. Nothing really you can do about that one and totally agree with Cornelie. Where did he get it from, maybe that is what should be asked.

Agree with a lot here..... My dad used to say "Daar is nie pille vir domgeit nie" and in this was really just stupidity, they probably kicking themselves in the butt..

I have to agree with Cornelie, obviously he had help getting a cell phone and alcohol etc into his cell. So what will happen to those guards that gave it to him? All the focus is on him now, but what sort of disciplinary action will those guards face, obviously some sort of bribery and corruption occurred??

Arrogance a foolish tool used by many. Unfortunately it gets you nowhere.

What an idiot, I agree though he should have a way longer term in jail, he took someone's life for crying out loud, whether it was a homeless person or not, he had no right. DISGUSTING!!! He should never be allowed out of jail.

If your ugly you can do something about it but stupid is forever...

Cornelie  said:

I just want to know how did they get the alcohol and cellphones from the guards and what is going to happen to the guards, nothing, Yes it was stupid of him to do it a second time obviously he does not learn from his mistakes, but yet again how did he managed to get the cellphone again from the guards don't they search the visitors or what.

To me it goes to show the level of corruption in this country and the mentality that money can buy a person anything.

It is irritating to see how he thought he could get way with all the stuff in prison.I am so glad he is going back now

Good comment Juliet, I saw it once on an e-card and enjoyed it then as well. Stupidity being compared to death. Still makes me laugh.

I have met idiots like this, think they are all tough, have too much anger and care nothing for other people. It is so sad that a poor guy had to suffer at the hands of complete morons who should have been in there for longer for what they did. Considering he was partying it up in jail - shows no remorse - no care and he will do it again, and not feel bad - so sick of people and who they are and what they do. Have a heart, care for humanity. These are the type of people you wanna just round up and ship them off to who the hell cares, as long as they are not here with us causing havoc and pain

He looks terrible! Absolutely ridiculous that he enjoys the fame for killing a person. Hope he rots in jail.

The boys had originally received a 12 year sentence but were released after only serving 3 years of their sentence in prison. In my opinion the boys shouldn't have been released that early because clearly they haven't really suffered the consequences of their action, but considering they were just kids when they had commit the crime, other forms of punishment could have also been used instead of jail time that could have helped them understand and repent for their actions. Sending them back to jail because of the video is rather ludacris considering that the prison guards should have prevented the party in the first place, there should have been no opportunity for them to have made such a video. Our justice system needs to step up their game, they make it possible for people like Christoff Becker to make a mockery of them.

I would like to read the judgment explaining how they were given such a light sentence for such a serious crime.

Kaylee  said:

Pure arrogance that's all it is, he comes from a rich family, and clearly thinks he is above the law to commit the crime in the first place. This guy is a d-bag

This story just shows you that it is so easy to bribe the prison guards and that you can still live a nice life while in prison... Quite irritating actually if you compare the quality of lives between prisoners and retired folks who has to live off the tiny amount of money from the government each month.

Cindy  said:

One can only laugh at that. This is really pathetic. Maybe now the prison authorities will be more strict and cautious about what is going on in the prison. Becoming famous for murder is really really pathetic!!

Angelique  said:

All the good looks gone to waste. He makes prison seem glamorous or as if he is a celebrity. He should be in prison for way longer! So glad that his stupidity put him back in there - but for only a year?? Pathetic!

Marzelle  said:

What's with the hair and the kids 12-13 shirt, he looks like the Glam Guru, I can't stand guys with an ego like that, thinking that they can get away with everything... including murder....

Juliet  said:
on Wednesday 09-Apr-14 10:05 AM
I don't see why he should change his look. He is still a person and has his own sense of style etc. He is still his own person despite actions he has taken. But of course if he doesn't want to change then he must deal with the consequences. Stupidity is like death. When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It is difficult only for other people. It is the same when you are stupid.

Sorea  said:

I do agree with David, what a moron. He was extremely lucky to receive such a short sentence considering the crime and then when he is released, he proves again why he should stay in prison. Idiot! Absolutely no remorse, I say a lot more time is jail for him.

david  said:
on Wednesday 09-Apr-14 09:52 AM
he is obviously an unrepentant idiot who belongs in jail. i have no doubt that he will commit further acts of idiocy in jail, which will keep him there for a long time to come. some people are simply too stupid to learn...
