We all know that exercise is good for one, and it is just amazing how many surveys continue to show the benefits. The latest one now relates to skin and research by McMaster University in Ontario, Canada has revealed that a regime of exercise in mice led not only to health benefits and living longer than the sedentary mice, but also to their skin being in a better condition. The University followed that up with a test on male and female volunteers who had not spent much time in the sun, so as to avoid those with obvious sun damage to their skin, and when they biopsied skin samples from them to compare those who exercise and those who did not. They also got a group of people who have not been exercising much, to start exercising by working out twice a week by jogging or cycling for at least 30 minutes.
The results were apparently astounding and they are not sure exactly how, although they believe it is related to a substance called myokines which is created when you work muscles. They found that the subjects, who were generally 65 or older, who exercised had skin that was the equivalent to non-exercising people aged 20 to 40 and that even for those who had previously been inactive, they could achieve dramatic results just be beginning to do exercise. Again that is moderate exercise – it’s not running 2 hours at a time every day of the weekend competing in long distance races, which can in itself be damaging to the skin.
Once again, everybody knows that exercise is good for you, but more and more research is beginning to show that it is good for you in a multitude of ways that people never imagined – now down to even your skin quality.

One always feels a lot better after a good work-out, getting there is the hardest part but time is not an excuses if its important to you you'll find a way.

When I exercise my skin is in much better condition and glows. I have always noticed this. It is also because by exercising you get rid of toxins by sweating and so of course less toxins equals less impurities equals better skin. If you want really good skin then do yoga

I am trying to make time to excise. It helps with stress levels as well.

Exercise is vital in each and every persons life. Yes people make all types of excuses but bottom line one needs to exercise as we are all well aware of it's benefits.

Physical exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness. It is performed for various reasons including strengthening muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance, as well as for the purpose of enjoyment.

For me it's not about living longer, it's about looking and feeling better about myself. If I don't exercise and eat unhealthy I feel bad about myself, as when I do I feel happier and more positive. I feel that you can always make time for anything that is really important to you.

I need to prioritize my time better when it comes to exercise, I cannot say "I don't have time" because in actual fact I do, I just prefer not to utilize it wisely.

that is so exciting that even skin becomes happier from exercising. imagine then how happier our brain becomes! No wonder that every depressed person is first of all prescribed exercise before starting antidepressants.I have seen this amazing improvement with my own sister, who has not only lost 15 kg in 5 months but most of all stopped all antidepressants because she is much happier person since she started her new life of exercising.at lunch break she skips and does sprints, counts her steps, does not eat wheat and sugar, in the evening she goes on a long walk with her dog.Lovely.Sky is the limit for all of us, if we only stay positive and determined.

Yes, exercise is vey good for you in all aspects of health, I always believed that doing exercises on daily basis will give lots of energy to go thru the day and specially in Winter - keep your body worm. It is amazing how exercise makes you to get away from the daily stress and pressure - only 5-10 minutes right breathing and you already can feel better. It just we always try to find excuse not to exercise! Very early and cold day or raining or just tired - feeling sorry for ourselves, I get to this stage as well, but I really would like to change and follow my exercise routine everyday.

I agree Caron. Most people want to live longer, but do not even know what to do with this lifetime they have been given.

Fit and healthy is for those who want to live longer... who wants to live longer? Most people don't have enough saved for retirement, so being fit and healthy will only leave the majority living long unhappily retired lives in abject poverty.

Interesting that it includes benefits for skin. One can only benefit from exercising although winter it is going to be quite tough making it out to the gym. Research isn't enough however, to make people want to gym! It's just one of those things, its either make time for it and reap the rewards or you don't and become unfit, less attractive and possibly have 101 diseases. There's nothing really to lose by exercising, except perhaps losing weight.

I do love exercise, but its hard to make time when you working hard and also need to make time for friends. I started action netball so I could do both, but unfortunately that's only once a week. If life's so short, I wouldn't really want to spend it at a gym, but everything in moderation is probably the best rule to apply.

Everyone needs exercise and yes I am sure we all know that, the only problem is, its hard to make time when you already have a full schedule to cope with, and the winter times I find it the hardest to get up early in the morning as its freezing cold and our temperature is already dropping.

There's absolutely no excuse to not make time for exercising and eating properly. If you want to live longer, have less health problems, look better (hair, skin, nails, figure) then you need to put in the time with preparing healthier food and keeping fit. Mice do have it somewhat easier than people though as they enjoy the benefits of running on a mouse wheel in their cages.....exercise on tap!!

I agree with Bianca, I respect people who work full time and still find the energy to work out regularly.
I've slowly made a more of an effort being more active, but not quite where I should be. Luckily, I don't have skin problems even if I don't exercise.

he life that we all lead these days have become lazy, there is no more exercise in most peoples vocabulary - I try to do what i can when i can - but life and the business of it makes it hard sometimes. I understand that exercise would help your skin, as there will be more oxygen going through your body, anything healthy done to yourself will feel good on the inside and inevitably will show on the outside

I am included in the group that needs to make a point of exercising more. I barely do any kind of exercise due to lack of time but that is a poor excuse. I honestly respect anyone who does a full days work and then still exercises after hours - good job!
