I see that SANRAL have been advertising extensively for sometime that if you register for an e-toll before 1 July, you can pay all accounts that you have incurred in the meantime at a discounted rate. That means anyone with an invoice between 3 December 2013 and 28 February 2014 can still now pay the old rate if they e-mail [email protected] for a discounted settlement amount. It would be interesting to see how many people take up this option and one would assume that after this they will start with more aggressive tactics to get payment. In the meantime, the share price of Kapsch TrafficCom has fallen from €38 to €33 and obviously it means that behind the scenes not as much money is being collected as they anticipated. I still don’t see them reversing this project, and quite likely those who continue to resist it are next going to be targeted with more punitive action, such as civil court procedures, because it seems that this is really the last effort of waving the carrot in front of the nose of consumers, and next is going to be the stick.

I wonder how many people are being billed ridiculous accounts for e-toll but was turned down for other accounts by the credit bureau because they told they cannot afford it. It is distressing that we are forced to submit under a government that is making very damaging decisions for our country and its people.

i am sure that people will be taking advantage of the discount options and I think e-toll is here to stay at least for now

I have received e-toll accounts and I am not planning on paying them. I really think it is a waste.

I'm sure the discount will help my one friend who is getting accounts that is more then her salary and "I'm also sure some people love working and giving up their hard earned salaries just to pay E-Toll".

I can imagine that what is going to happen is that they are going to stop people at roadblocks and check to see if they have a e-tag and probably undertake a zero tolerance approach. It will be interesting to see how effective this is, when even drunk driving cannot be curbed as a result of bribery.
I just think that South Africa is facing so many challenges that it seems like such a waste to spend all this time and effort on e-tolls. It worries me that this is the government's focus. We all know how crowded the courts are, this just seems another unnecessary burden that will make the right to access to swift justice more difficult for those who really need it

Well their offer does not suit people like me who only started using the toll roads in May!!! Please advise how they are going to take civil action against 90% of the toll road users?

There is not a chance that I will pay the e-toll accounts. What I do find extremely pathetic is that when I was driving on the N1 about two weeks ago to Pretoria, I saw a big traffic jam as cars were coming off the William Nicol to get on to the highway. There were about 4 traffic cops cars' and they were pulling off each and every vehicle. All of this happening while there were a few e-toll stations parked right on the other side of the traffic cops.
This all happened on a Sunday morning. They really don't have anything better to do with their time...

I think that if you are going to change your mind, you will benefit from the discount and having them hound you for payments. I do believe that they will eventually be issuing summons and people's lives are going to made very difficult. I have however heard that they are opposing the whole system again and they do feel extremely confident about it, I do not believe at all that it will be scrapped.

I refuse to pay at this stage. Like Elektra says "Zuma did not ask for Nkandla, and he is not paying, I did not ask for e-toll, why must I pay".

This is just so pathetic honestly, how could they have ever expected this was going to work in the first place. They will definitely incur way more costs with civil court procedures, never mind waste the courts time with more than half the Gauteng's population refusing to pay. "I mean Zuma did not ask for Nkandla, and he is not paying, I did not ask for e-toll, why must I pay"
In any event they are just going to put up the petrol price Nation wide, to try and recover the costs.
