Lithium in the water

Lithium is a soft silver-white metal which can be found in small quantities in water.  It has been used to treat bipolar disorder and is apparently helpful with schizo affected disorder and major depression.  This came to mind when I read an interesting article in the New York Times asking if we should all take a bit of lithium?  That is, as they always say, the plot of science fiction movies and terrorists when they always say something will be put into the water to control the people.  Because lithium is naturally occurring, it does appear in one’s water in any event and interestingly enough recent studies have shown that areas with low lithium in their water have more behavioural problems.  27 Counties in Texas with low lithium in their water have significantly greater levels of suicide, homicide and rape than areas that had more.  A similar Japanese study of 18 Municipalities confirmed the same thing about 20 years ago, that the more lithium in the water, the lower the suicide rate in the Municipality. Apparently, there are also corroborating studies in Greece and Austria and lithium, while this idea would definitely not be popular with the major pharmaceutical companies, because they would be competing with what is essentially an almost free product, it may just be something that requires more studies because of suicide being the 10th leading cause of death in the United States, and no doubt similar figures apply to most countries, it may well be beneficial to put just a little bit more of it in the water to reduce violent acts in some areas!  That, together with a bit of the fluoride that they already put in for your teeth!

If it helps then I don't see the problem. What about the areas that don't have water? I agree with Lucretia they should add more lithium

Sure, I see absolutely nothing wrong with placing substances in our drinking water to make the general population a bit more compliant and to dull their sense of discontent with life and the circumstances they find themselves in.

Cant help but find Lucretia's comment Amusing. But on a serious note, this is quite interesting to know. I'm curios as to whether Lithium is found only in tap water or bottled water as well.

I agree with Lucretia but the water is probably down in some areas because they don't want the people to drink the water with Lithium in as they probably don't want the crime to come down.. SA is probably famous because of the crime.. so i think the Lithium is probably Ilegal in our country

I also read about that - didn't know it was found in water though. Do we even know what else we drink when drinking water? How does it even work? I read it resets the bodies biological clock, but I think you need to have a lot of it and not just from water. I also understand that it can reduce the risk of one getting dementia.

With the crime rate in South Africa, we can surely use an above average dose of lithium. Oh wait, some areas don't have water, just another day in the life of a South African.

This very interesting i never new about this in water, so i think a lot of people need to drink more water then because this bipolar disorder seems to becoming an everyday diagnose. But water is actually just very good for you as well so you can not live without it, Just another great creation on our God has given us.

I think we all have a little bit of crazy in us. Apparently Lithium can also treat cluster headaches. It does sound like it could be beneficial in terms of health benefits. I see Lithium was one of the main components in nuclear bombs during the second world war, thought that was interesting.
