Ebola continues to spread at a steady climb, and some experts are now saying that by 2 November there will be 20,000 infections. This is according to an article in the New England Journal of Medicine and it would be interesting, on 2 November, to see what the figure is at that time. The World Health Organisation initially predicted that the virus could strike 20,000 people within 9 months, which is obviously a much longer timeframe and of course some say it will be millions by then. So far the disease has really been limited, by and large to Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. There is every prospect that it can become a permanent part of life in those countries, with it being somewhat under control, and not spreading wildly, but nevertheless killing people on a regular basis. Unfortunately, that is one of the more positive predictions from the experts – the disaster scenarios are much more scary.

Of all the Level 5 viruses, Ebola is the one that intrigues my interest the most.
The Ebola virus' mechanism of digesting its host in order to liquidize the victim to substantially increase the virus' prospects of infecting further hosts is absolutely fascinating, as the only means of infecting another host is through direct contact with an infected hosts bodily fluid. Therefore, increasing the level of bodily fluid through digestion of the hosts organs substantially increases the chances of spreading to further hosts.

This I must say is probably the worst way to die, and now looking at the pictures of the babies makes it even worse. I hope they can find a cure soon for it.

Well, the first case has been diagnosed in America. An aid worker travelled home, started showing symptoms and was taken to a doctor. They are adamant that the Aid Worker was not infectious during his trip home so technically he should not have infected anyone else. As an added precaution, they have also traced all the people he/she (I don't know) came into contact with on the journey back home.

This is so heartbreaking, and how many more people will get infected. I really hope that they will keep it properly isolated to insure that it does not spread to other countries.

As I said before - I am so scared it comes here. And Elektra is right, those people doing good - what will happen if they catch it and bring it to their own country - then there it spreads even more. The world has a way of eliminating the overcrowded

Hopefully, they will be able to find a cure or find an effective way to stop the spread of the virus. I can't even imagine how scary it would be if the virus was spread to South Africa.

This is quite a scary thought, to think this virus is slowly but surely spreading and will continue to spread. To think it to become apart of their daily lives is just mind blowing as people are in and out of those Countries all the time and should they catch it and take it back to their 3rd world countries could be catastrophic.
