Talent is Overrated is the title of a book on a similar topic, but that is not the subject of my blog today. I just find it incredible how people always assume certain people either have talent or luck, but choose to ignore the fact that most people achieve what they do simply through hard work. This has brought home to me every time I read an article involving a sport star. If you read about golfers they will almost always tell you about 20% of what got them where they are is talent and the rest was pure hard work. I read a similar article involving a swimmer recently who said that in the big races, and I like you thought it was all just about pure athletic ability and talent, that 80% of the result gets down to mental attitude and who wants to win.
The best place to see this is in the office where you work because there will always be those that are recognised by the company as being the stars and those who are in the middle of the pack running along and working just fine, but who never become stars. Almost always the only difference between them is not education or talent, but some people just work harder than others. Some people put in more time, more effort and want to get ahead whereas others are just “there”. I think that is a tragedy, because I don’t understand why anybody, who only gets one chance at living in this world, would choose to just be in the middle of the road, jogging along and not achieving anything instead of putting their foot down and trying to see how much they can do and how far they can go. If you only get one chance, you really should take it.

It's like the saying what you give is what you get. The harder you work for what you want to achieve the more chance of achieving it.
Hard work will always be rewarded, and every chance that comes your way should be used to achieve what you can and want... Never stop believing and never give up.

If you really want something you will have to work hard, talent is a plus. Some people work for a salary others do it to gain experience, learn more and be a value to the company they working for. If you go the extra mile it will be recognised.

I agree with Bianca..... Hard work..... Anyone can be talented and a "star worker" if you only put your mind to it and work hard to prove you self. With that I don't mean I don't mean brown nosing. You have to have a positive attitude and mentally want to do it before you'll succeed.

In my opinion you can succeed at any task if you work hard and put your mind to it. This applies specifically to the workplace, anyone can do a job but the question is how well will the job be done and how long did it take the person to do / finish the job? I am extremely driven and cannot go a day without working especially hard. Working hard motivates me and I cannot think of anything worse than not having a pressurized day. Hard work, it always pays off.

While working hard is always beneficial, nothing beats working smart and by that I mean finding the most efficient way of completing and mastering your task.
People mistakenly think that putting in endless hours of work or studying several degrees, diplomas, certificates etc to qualify themselves more highly than the next person will make them succeed more than the next person however this is not necessarily the case as my experience has taught me that efficiency, being solution driven, resilient and persistent will serve your far better in the long run in any sphere of your life, but especially on the work front.
Let you brilliance shine and be the best person you can be are words we should all be living by every day.

I think that hard work always pays off... however I do believe that people are born with different talents. We are all talented in different things and certain things come easier to certain people because of such talent.

I believe in working hard, get a system and do what you can to get the job done. I have always worked fast, if I have a problem to solve which hampers me, I will think about how I can approach it and proceed with what I need to do. I have to keep busy

I enjoyed reading Jades comment, we all have talent in something, some people in drawing or singing or being an actor. Today even some people do not even know that they have talent and they moving opposite direction working hard in the different field. The time and hard work we put in always will make us benefit in the future and of course we have to believe in ourselves. With no HOPE and believe we will not get the result we were going to.

I use to do sports in school particularly when I was younger, and I always felt that I won and did really well purely because I wanted to win, I wanted to get first prize and nothing less. I would go home and swim and swim and swim but I really don't think I kept excelling because of talent, fitness or luck - It sounds silly but I think I did well because I believed I would win and wanted it badly. I always felt the one girl who always swam close to my times didn't want it as bad as I did. If you really want to stand out, and really want something hard enough you will really get it as long as you push yourself and do everything you can to get it.

It sounds like an Eminem lyric: "Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity, To seize everything you ever wanted. One moment. Would you capture it or just let it slip?"

I watched SA has talent last night and i get really worried about the people that tell others they have talent, like do they see clearly or hear clearly. There was a lady on TV she came to dance but she was oldish and what she did should never be seen again, Even Lala the judge on this program told her to please stop dancing, yet this lady told the judges that she was told by her friends and family to enter as she has talent.. What on earth where they thinking...
