Technology debates

It is amazing how, whenever I write about the latest Apple products, I will get all of the comments that one would expect on my blog.  In other words, people will say that they are sticking with their BlackBerry, their Samsung or whatever device they are currently using and how they prefer that to Apple products.

In that regard I found a media piece in the Financial Mail by Toby Shapshank quite interesting.  He is the editor of Stuff magazine and as he said he has tried every system and every device and “it is my job to test them and then give an honest, intelligent and unbiased opinion.”  He said at the end of the day, despite being able to test and use all the devices, he uses Apple phones and devices and that is because as far as he is concerned, they are just simply the easiest to use of all devices.  As he points out, if you give an iPad to a child, they will very quickly work out how to use it and you cannot say that of all of the competing phones.  Obviously, it comes at a price in South Africa, which makes the choice harder for many, but in many respects the reason why Apple dominates the market now, is that their products are easier to use, they are more intuitive and if the truth be told, many of the other companies have products that try and many ways to imitate them where they legally can.

At the end of the day technology is personal preference. And as easy as some of it might be to deal with, I agree with Steve Jobs, who said that children should only have limited access to technology.

I guess I am happy with my Samsung because I am not a techno-junkie and therefore don't need a fancy phone. Truth be told, I probably only use 40% of the functions on my phone anyway.

I will agree on this comment that I - products are kids friendly products on the market and I will say kids from 5 and up will want to play around with I-pad. Even my 2 year old child knew after few minutes how to operate I-pad. But for me I will rather go for Samsung as well, I products are expensive on the SA market compare to States or Europe.

This Magazine editor was obviously given a lot more products and his so called "Unbiased" opinion, is not so truthful after all, Magazines are bribed all the time given samples and products etc in order to promote their product its just adverting strategies, and Apple probably gave Mr Shapshank a nice package, you will most likely find his whole family uses Apple as Apple gave it to him to write about the products.

I don't need to be told what is better and best to use, everyone is different and different things work for different people.

My opinion stands as stated in my many other Comments, and a media piece in the Financial Mail is not going to change that.

I never had an apple phone and most probably wont buy one I know the laptops are nice.I heard of too many complaints about the phone especially when their is something wrong with the phone ,to fix it is almost the same as buying a new one, that's just my opinion I like my Samsung and I never had a problem with it :)

I am the only one in my immediate family that doesn't use Apple products. My sister's Laptop and iphone just seem far too complicated to me! I have never had a problem with Samsung and find my phone to be very reliable. I think iphone can also be accused of imitating Samsung - Bigger Screens? The Phablet idea?

Jade has a a point they do not fix their products if they break, you must get a new one for a hardly reduced price. Apple is very expensive and maybe if they bring down their price more people will buy it.

I believe it is in human nature to want to try every new gadget that comes to the market. To what extent though one can do this is dictated by the person's financial status. At the end of the day, one will only be able to comment on what they are using and are able to afford.

I know of a few people that swear by Apple. I have never had one so cannot comment. I have also heard that data usage on a Apple phone is very expensive, so a phone like that is not on the cards for me anyway.

I have to say, in line with all my blog comments, Apple is the best and nothing compares. Worth every cent! I have to say although many of the comments often say other devices are better, but some of the comments come from people who haven't even tried any of the apple technology! I am going with the opinion here! #Iloveapple

I cannot believe that a man who works for a magazine, when magazines are heavily reliant on advertising, can have an unbiased opinion on any product.

I have used numerous Samsung and Apple products, and there are a few things that bother me immensely about apple products:
- They dictate your music player and apps through I-tunes and I-store.
- You need to jailbreak your apple product/ create a fake US account in an attempt to get an app that is not available in SA
- They do not fix their products if they break, you must get a new one for a hardly reduced price, which happened recently with my Ipad.
- Even if you fork out the sickening amount of money it costs to get an apple product, a new one will be out in a few months, making you feel like you always need to get the new version
- The Iphone's battery life is terrible (with regards to the Iphone 5)

I have to agree with Bianca, maybe if it wasn't so expensive maybe more people would buy them. That is why we love Samsung it is affordable and also can do a lot of stuff.

I agree 100% that apple is very easy to use. Not very fond of apple computers though, maybe because i am so use to a normal laptop or pc and the software they use. I get very frustrated when i have to use my husband's apple laptop because i struggle to use excel for the reason that i know curtain shortcuts and cannot use them on an apple laptop. But the iphone and ipad, i will never use anything else.

I am a lover of Samsung but I have witnessed my five year old godson work an iPad like a pro. Perhaps they are easier to operate but as said above, the pricing does not make it easy to get your hands on them.
