I love this picture, and I love it even more because the horse was mine and one of my favourites. Soul Master at one stage was a serious contender for the July, but unfortunately he had a mood of his own when it came to racing and only really put in an effort every third or fourth race. When he did, he would win comfortably. Only 3% of horses ever win three races or more and he won six races, so he certainly was an exceptionally talented horse, with a fabulous finishing speed.
He was unfortunately plagued with injury problems and after I turned down an offer to sell him to Mauritius for R500 000, he actually never raced again nor recovered from his injuries. We had to retire him and he has found a lovely home on a farm in the Cape and his new owner, or friend, gave us a copy of this picture just to show him enjoying his retirement and told us of his friendship with the dog who is sitting on his back. It is a happy story and not all racehorses get treated as well in their retirement and I am happy that a talented horse of mine is in a good place and enjoying himself.

This makes me think that horse trainers only care about the horses when they are good to make money. and once the horse no longer is able to perform anymore is just discarded off of. At least once the horses do retire most of them find loving homes.
The story above is very heart worming, And glad Soul Master is in a loving environment.

This is truly amazing... Makes me wish people could get along with each other like that... We could learn a thing or two from them.

I really enjoyed reading this post. It is so refreshing to see when animals are treated well. Soul Master looks like a beautiful horse. It is a pity that such a talented race horse's career was cut short from injuries, but it doesn't look like he minds one bit.

Wow such a sad story, but so amazing if a dog is mans best friend I'm sure that they can be a horses best friend to, i love animals they are so interesting you can be so angry but they will give you so much love. I have a friend that has a blind dog and this dogs best friend is a cat the dog follows that cat everywhere and this cat takes the dog all over the show,.

I can relate to this story. Storm too has an ex-race horse, Phif's Lady, who is enjoying her retirement at Bambi Stables where we stable her. Phif does not like the dogs there but she loves MacDonalds Coke and is quite happy to share same with Storm. I never quite understood the bond between a rider and a horse until Phif's Lady came into Storm's life :-)

So adorable to see how two different animals can become so close. A lot of people don't know how animals have feelings too or they just don't care. I get so angry when I hear how animals get abused, they are so defenceless. I feel that if you treat an animal bad, you wouldn't treat a human any different.

Ah that it so sweet, heart touching. I love animals and I am glad that some animals are treated so well. I see allot of animals that are getting abused and are just thrown away - it's heart breaking to know that some people can hurt something that is so innocent and just wants some love and attention. And it's so adorable when two different kinds of animals gets along so well, I just love stories like this!

Always amazing to see the beautiful friendships and natures between animals. We could learn a thing or two from them when it comes to being different and still tolerating each other. No matter there circumstances are those two little buddies will stick it through together. So cute :)

Awww that is so cute...Its always great to know that an animal has found a wonderful home and get the love they deserve , I'm personally a big dog lover and treat my two Pekingeses like my baby's and will hope if someday I have to get them another home they get the same love they received from me.

I hope when i am old i will be as happy as this horse .Too many old people are quarantined into nursery homes by their family just because their kids are "too busy".and old people get badly treated just like some old race horses when they retire.
this is a very happy picture of a happy horse with a happy dog!

That is so awesome. He is a beautiful horse. I believe that animals make you happier in a way than people do. I love my family but I love animals ever more.
