Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift had a rare media coup recently, being on the cover of both BusinessWeek magazine as well as Time magazine in the same week.  The theme of both of the articles was quite similar and that is that her new album, 1989, which is a pop album and not the country music style she sung in the past, is the biggest selling album of the year.

Album sales are down so much these days that when she sold 1,2 million copies in only the first week of release, it was more than the second biggest album of the whole year by Coldplay, has sold since May!  Basically both magazines articles wrote about the music business and revealed that she is so far ahead as the biggest selling artist at the moment, that those who are second and third are so far behind her that metaphorically they cannot see her!  I must say that the new album is a completely different type of music, and I think I prefer her old style, and I will not be surprised if she goes back to it in her next album, but either way she is a very talented performer.  Unlike many artists, ,she actually writes her own lyrics, which are normally clever and well thought through and that ability will allow her to remain relevant for years.  For somebody worth $200 million she is surprisingly young – she is about to turn 25.

The one thing that stands out for me the most. Is the fact the through the fame and wealth she has acquired she remains humble, and hos not gone off the rails, most stars at a young age, cannot manage their money and tend to fall off the face of the earth, meaning indulging in to much drugs and party life style.

She has managed to stick around for a while now, and continues to get better and better.

She also upholds this sophisticated pure look about herself and that makes her different as everyone tries to go over the top. She just stands out even more.

Taylor Swift certainly has done well for herself and so far has been a huge success. It still amazes me how someone can just appear out of nowhere and become so popular over a short period of time.

Not a fan but her music isn't that bad. She's really beautiful, naturally pretty and so far no bad press for her.... so well done on success.... Some people deserve it

I am not the biggest fan of her music, and all she really sings about is her ex boyfriends and break ups.But it seems that is what everyone girl wants to hear when getting their hearts broken ....But great for her and what she accomplished thus far and being so young :)

I find the 'man-eater' singer's music quite annoying to say the least, very catchy though. It's quite amazing how successful she suddenly became since dropping country music. Go her!

I agree with Kaylee. There's so many other artists and musicians better than her. She is successful and I can give her that but she is lame.

Not my type of music at all, so cannot really comment - however reading all of the comments - Kaylee hit the nail on the head, what happened to the true artists! They do not make music like they used to anymore.

I like Taylor Swift, there is something about her that I think is more authentic than perhaps other pop stars, and held her chin up despite the harsh criticism of her endless stream of boyfriends and the breakup songs that came with them. She is certainly a better role model than Miley Cyrus for example.

Although, I agree with Kaylee in that I don't think her lyrics are profound, I think she was on the covers, not for lyrical genius, but rather as a business woman. Like you said, she sold 1,2 million copies in only the first week of release for her new album 1989.

I have to say after reading all the comments where everyone says that her music has meaning? She only writes about break ups and boyfriends, I don't really think her music has any meaning other than silly girl break ups. What about musical legends like the rolling stones, metalica, AC/DC, the doors, panic street preachers. I guess I can go on and on. I think true legends should be on magazine covers!

She writes great lyrics, her songs have meaning . I however prefer her old albums over this new one.
the new one is too much "bubble gum music" for me but it is just my personal preference, i prefer her country music songs.

Taylor Swift recently appeared on NBCs The Voice as an advisor. She worked alongside the shows veteran coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine as well as the newbies Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani. She clearly put the cheerleading skills that she mastered in her Shake It Off video to good use.

I am not the biggest fan of her music. But what I do admire about her is her intellect in her lyrics and the consistency in her performances, whether she is live, on an album, with an entire music ensemble behind her or acoustic.

I like when artists change their style because making the same type of music can get annoying over time, its good if they keep it fresh.. I like taylor swifts music more now then back then, but can i just say that ONE artist keeps it to fresh and that is a bit much.. Think we all know who i am talking about

Juliet  said:

I really admire how hard she works and that she writes her own lyrics. She is a true artist in all ways and she really looks after her body too. She is a rare being in this world at this time.
