The petrol price is now impacting upon inflation and bringing it down. The latest figure indicated a drop from 5,8% in December to 5,3% and we can expect more drops in the months ahead. Basics, such as milk, bread and eggs are costing less and the other good news with inflation coming down is that we are unlikely to face an interest rate hike at the moment.
It might well be that we could see inflation as low as 4% within a few months and if we get really lucky, and that leads to our bonds been more attractive, we might even get some more inflows of foreign currency, which in turn might just lower the Rand a bit more, which in turn will affect the petrol price positively, which in turn … you get the picture! Let’s hope we do get this convergence of good news and the various factors start working together to improve and strengthen our economy.

Very good to start this year with positive news like petrol price decrease. I believe that already this factor will bring some of the prices down on first need products. But all this changes in South African Law and implementations government is busy now - it is not really positive news, so let's hope that any changes can be for the best for South African people.

Honestly, why oh why would any foreigner want to invest in South Africa?
The government is corrupt and has openly stated that whites are not welcome in South Africa, enacted legislation which does not allow foreigners to own land and failed dismally to maintain basic infrastructure.

It certainly is welcomed from my side. Just bought a new house so, if the rates continue to stay low, it is a pleasure. Now all the government needs to do is start clamping down on crime so that foreign investors see reason to invest in SA.

Fingers crossed that the inflation rate continues to slide downwards. Very welcome break for the man on the street.

This isn't long term though. You cannot not work and expect results and the government is not working. It's a temporary high

inflation is down, hopefully rand will get stronger, bonds will be cheaper etc we need foreign investments and foreign companies creating jobs in SA. unemployment rate is very high, government has to modify labor laws, create tax benefits for companies so they are attracted to SA and SA workforce.

I really hope that food prices drop drastically. I don't see any change in food prices when petrol prices do drop but when petrol increases so does everything else increase.
