The way that load shedding is communicated is really not acceptable. You get told that you have to go to the website, then you have to choose your Province, your city and then you get all sorts of divisions by suburbs, etc and have to go through Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3. I really cannot see why, in this day and age, that one cannot register one’s work and home address with your mobile number and your e-mail address. Then, when either your place of work or your home address is going to be without electricity, either that day or the next day, an alert would be sent. It is so much easier to deal with the shortage if, for example, you know that you will not have electricity from 6pm to 10pm rather than to suddenly have it happen to you. It is way too much effort to have to go to all the various charts and stages and at a minimal cost, even if you only receive 30 minutes notice, you could be notified by e-mail and SMS simply by registering with the relevant authority who is implementing the Eskom load shedding and I do hope they think about that.

It would be a very good idea, whether or not it would work is another story. I have no faith in this country

I think an sms a couple of days before loadshedding occurred or even a day before would be really helpful. It would be great not to be in the middle of making dinner when the electricity goes out and you have to chuck your half-cooked food away. This would facilitate better planning for families and businesses.

I actually spoke to a lady this past weekend that said she received an SMS that she would experience load-shedding and she did. I think it really will help if they implement it with everyone. Either that or stop load shedding all together.

I think its a good Idea but it would probably need to be handled correctly and well organized without sending wrong information out and we can see how that could turn out too because even their schedules now are not spot on.

I think that is a brilliant idea, especially for companies as they can re-arrange their working hours around load shedding as companies especially those without generators are definitely not productive during load shedding.

The schedule is a joke,,,they do not stick to the schedules. And it happened a few time now preparing for shedding and then it goes off later than the schedule said or earlier ...But Clare crack us some more jokes :)

They are trying to negotiate thin ice when they should of worked on a plan to slam on brakes to a foreseeable crisis way back then instead of wasting time power punching from their victim seats. They demanded all the glory and power but cannot weigh up to it's demands and responsibilities and therefore cannot flourish in it. It is such a pity that services like these cannot be challenged by a comparable service provider but from the private sector.

You are asking a corporation, that cannot even sort its own issues out, to do something as rational as sending you an sms to advise you of scheduled power cuts when it cannot even stick to its own schedules. Really?

That would be a brilliant strategy. Even if the load shedding doesn't happen, just an sms to warn you that it most probably will happen and at what times. We are just sitting ducks with load shedding

I would like to get smses on my phone from Eskom, brilliant idea, to be at least aware of the load shedding times, but the schedule Eskom provides to public is incorrect anyway. In Heidelberg when we tried to follow their schedule from website times of load shedding will be different and days does not correspond. So what is the use even wasting time to look out for one, make your candles and gas stove ready..... (better generator)

ha ha ha.
keep you advised as to their plans....
they do not stick to the schedules.
sometimes we get shed, and other times not.
sometimes for 2 hours other times for 4.
there is no schedule, and there is no planning...

I could not agree more, it is extremely frustrating trying to obtain information about when you are scheduled for load shedding. You get those schedules which are circulated but 90% of the time, the schedule is inaccurate and the times do not correspond with your area. A better way of communicate is certainly needed.
