I was quite interested to read about the latest in 3D printing. A German company by the name of Doob has created 3D scanning booths in two cities in America as well as Europe and Japan. Apparently, you enter a small booth, which has 54 cameras, photographing you from all sides, and they use these photos to print a small 3D model of you which takes two weeks to be made and they also give you a digital file of it in case you want to put it into any video game as an Avatar. Apparently, they are doing a lot of couples, for the top of wedding cakes, like this and you can have a statue of yourself for $295. It sounds quite exciting, but at that price I don’t see them bringing a booth to South Africa any time soon.

This is actually really interesting. Especially the video game avatar. It would really be cool to play and the avatar actually looks like you.
As for the wedding topper, that is a brilliant idea!
I wonder if they will introduce something like this to South Africa. Maybe in the future...

my mom works for Kemtek print solutions in City Deep, they got a new machine that does something similar to this, she sent me a picture of a shoe and i asked why is she sending me a picture of a shoe then she said it is not a real shoe, the machine made it and i was shocked as it looked so real.. technology surprises me everyday

That is very nice I must say,but that price in South Africa forget it...People wouldn't wanna go that far but indeed I would love to have that on my wedding cake, cause its the most special day of my life so I wouldn't mind spending that amount..Its a once in a life time,

That is very cool. I am always amazed at the next creative idea and I think this is very nice for the top of wedding cakes. But at that price I think that is the only time I would pay for something like that and even then I would hope by the time I get married the price has decreased substantially!!
