Unusually dry summer

We really had a much drier summer this year than in previous years.  That is just my impression based on what I see, and I have not looked at the actual data.  I appreciate that there are parts of the country that have a drought, but they also often have a drought when other parts of the country receive record rainfall, so that is not necessarily the indicator.  I just find that, with still relatively hot temperatures, grass is dying, the bush is drying up and the leaves on the trees are really beginning to fade and fall.  I really don’t think, with these temperatures, it should be autumn next, and I can only think that it is largely the lack of rain that is leading to everything beginning to look so dry.  If anyone has any of these statistics or has any observations, I would like to hear that. The bottom line is that we have summer weather, but the plants and vegetation are acting as if it is late April.

I love summer, but nothing compares to a Thunder Storm in the late afternoon, we definitely need the rain, and I can see the impact the dry weather is having on the agriculture and environment.

On the farms we have noticed a significant drop in the amount of rain we have had. It normally ranges from about 500-600ml and this year we have only had 340ml. According to the farmers this is the driest summer we have had in 8 years. This definitely has a very negative effect on animals and their feed. It seems we are having very late rains this year which contributes to the risk of disease amongst our livestock.

We had quite a lot of rain in the last two months of 2014. However this year there has not been a lot of rain and it has been very hot. I agree it is global warming.

I love the rain and being without it is definitely an inconvenience for me. But i am definitely appreciating the last bit of summer.

I think this year's summer is unusual, cold in the morning and feels like beginning of winter and changes to very hot during the day

it is global warming effect and it will get much worse in the years to come. read "This changes everything" by N Klein, it is frighting what will be left for the future generations and how they will live on this planet.the global warming will cause irreversible changes and we are only now starting to feel the heat. in 10 years time you will remember this summer with nostalgia saying it was so cool and nice, those good old days.

I always account all peculiar weather changes to global warming. I have noticed fewer afternoon showers than previous years and I missed them! They are one of the reliefs after a long hot day..... Pretoria and Fourways still look quite green to me.....Autumn officially started on 1 March so one shouldn't be too shocked if the leaves are fading in colour now

I will agree that this summer was quit hot and dry, defiantly not like other years, but I believe different regions gets different rain fall, Heidelberg probably gets the most of the rain. We had for the last week every night storms and heavy rain, that is the reason why trees and flowers grow so fast and always green.

It has been a hot summer, however, we seem to have bought a new home in a rain belt because we have had copious amounts of rain. David, you might not be looking forward to winter after what the report on 702 this morning, with the ant problem that most of us are experiencing, according to the report, this is a sign of a VERY COLD winter on the up-and-coming.
