Complaint about robots or traffic in Johannesburg?
Who you gonna call?

I’ve always had a blog, where I deal with largely legal issues, at www.lawblog.co.za.  It does not get updated very often – probably about 12 times a year.  What has always interested me is that the number one blog on that site is probably the only one that does not have anything to do with law, and was probably posted up by me incorrectly to that blog.  The blog dealt was headed “Complaints about robots or traffic in Johannesburg? Who you gonna call?”  the blog was pretty short and it just said that it is up to all of us to take action more often and not just grumble and gave the details of the Johannesburg Road Agency who can be e-mailed at [email protected] or faxed at 011 298 5173 or called at 011 375 5555.  Since then, I’ve had a steady stream of intersections with robot problems or other traffic related issues that have been reported on the site.  I get my staff to follow up on those that we can, but I do hope that those who write in are also sending off their complaints to the e-mail address – I’ve had some good success with a number of things that I have reported to it and so I will repeat it again - [email protected].

The traffic light at the crossing of Ysterhout and Rabie Street has been out of order the entire week, making a 20min journey over an hour.

Is there anywher that this can be reported, I have tried the landline with no results.

It sounds like to send complaint through email address [email protected] complaining about robots and traffic does help and complaint gets attended to by the Johannesburg Road Agency

I will defiantly make a note on my tablet about Johannesburg Road Agency details, for the last month I could see the difference on the road with Metro police and Outsurance people ruling traffic, maybe because it was Easter time. I really hope that our complains and photos will change our roads!!

At least there seems to be some hope of success when interacting through the JRA site. If only JMPD could be as pro-active and attend to traffic control at broken robots, instead of just sitting at the speed-trap cameras 10metres away from an unmanned broken-robot intersection.

@Juliet ;Taxi drivers are the most evil. it also seems they like provoking people just because they are bored and want to a have a bit of entertainment. taxi industry is the true mafia of South Africa and that is why the government does not want to deal with them.Taxi drivers always look a bit insane. When my mother came to visit South Africa first time, her first observation as i was driving her from OR Tambo was about taxi drivers and their slightly retarded faces. She said they looked like they had all escaped from a mental institution.
and after that it is aggressive way of all drivers, no regard for pedestrians, no regards for fellow drivers, no regard for anything. there has to be stricter rules,bigger fines,more metro police on every corner, more cameras and also possibility of drivers licence taken away after 3d offence like that do in Australia .

There seems to be a general act of lawlessness on the roads. Many motorists simply don't care to abide by the rules of the road for e.g. a broken traffic light needs to be treated as a four-way stop etc. To apply salt to the wound very needed repairs to our roads and traffic lights take months before they are repaired if at all. A perfect example of trying to manage chaos is driving in the CBD during peak hour traffic times. One wonders whether some motorists think it is more important for them to be on time as opposed to you.

Regardless of the above it is important that we keep notifying the requisite people in charge of the needed repairs on our roads despite their lack in response or action thereof. I think it is imperative that we battle ram their lethargic approach with updates on faulty traffic lights and the like to ensure that they know we are not backing down and becoming complacent. They have a responsibility and we are not going to go away until they do what needs to be done.

Yes @David, red has turned into a sign that means drive as fast as you can. It is just terrible to answer incoming calls about RAF queries and the parents are battling to talk on the other side and then tell me their child was killed in a car accident when a taxi skipped a red robot or a taxi hit them on the pavement. It is always a taxi that killed the children. It is murder blatantly occurring on our roads and nothing is done about it

Back to the actual topic of this blog, I will report any traffic lights I notice not working but since I have been working in Pretoria I really haven't encountered as many as I used to on William Nicol Drive

I am so sick and tired of our lawlessness on the roads. The sad thing is, I have noticed more and more people adopting taxi attitudes, "if you cannot beat them, join them". I find that even if I approach a green robot, I slow down because I have seen way too many people skip their red robot. Australia has 18 million cars on the road and only about 3.3 accidents a month, we have way less cars and about 10 times the amount of accidents a month. What is going to be done about this or are we just going to continue going backwards......

People don't stop at all. When coming to work this morning on Jan Smuts, the stop streets on the sides people just drive even though its your right of way. I almost road into this person because he just goes and he was meant to wait for his turn.

nobody in JHB stops at light anyway.
when they are working: green means go, orange means go faster, and red means full speed ahead.
